k , second question. Im ordering a laptop in a day or two with win 7. Now, I should be able to install win 7 on my desktop also right?
If the Win 7 is bundled with your laptop, this is what is called an OEM version of Windows. Microsoft will only allow you to install that Win 7 on the machine it was bundled with, unless of course you want to call MS up and brow beat them endlessly so you can install Win 7 on 2 machines but even then I don't think they will let you do it. Eventually they will catch you and then call you a pirate and then deactivate one of your machines. Now, if you never connect one of the machines to the Internet, MS will never know you are running Win 7 on 2 machines. But of course, you will never receive any updates from MS and your poor computer will die a slow and agonizing death into PC obscurity.
You can purchase a "retail" copy of Win 7. This will allow you to install Win 7 on any one machine at a time that Win 7 will run on. Isn't M$ wonderful ? Hey can you blame them, Bill Gates needs the money. Times are hard.
