lets play build me a new gaming system
« on: October 16, 2011, 05:16:32 PM »
Well my comp decided that bsod is a fun game to play when i try to run crysis wars.  so since its an older system and im not a computer wiz lets play build me a good gaming system,

looking for something that will last a few years of hard core gaming.  I dont play with video or music crap so i just want a dedicated gaming system.

this is an open invitation to spend my money for me.

and i know that $$$ doesnt always = performance but i figure that should be enough to get an idea

good lord, for 2500 you could build a system that would CRUSH this game. . .

off to the drawing board. . .

$2500 is enough to build 4 computers that can run the game on high.

I don't know how useful 6 core processors are, you might just want to use a Sandy Bridges 2500k quad core; they default to 3.3 ghz, but if you have enough cooling, you can get it up to 5ghz and remain stable.
Pairing the standard hard drive with a decent sized solid state hard drive (25, 50gb or something) for the operating system would be good as well.

ok good to know i can add a ss drive to it also and ill do some research on the 6 core but from what ive read they arent in alot of use yet because they aren't being required yet.

I would like to avoid overclocking if possible just because i like the stability of the standard performance even though i would get a cpu that is open to being oc'ed.

right now the build is at about 2200 with a sound card and the ss drive included.

granted the video card is 800 by itself so the rest of the comp is fairly inexpensive

back from drawing board. . . and now that this is cleaned up. . . .this comes in at just under 2000 and will play games for years to come. . . SLI Ready add a second GTX580 and you'll come in right under the $2500 mark. . .

Soundcard. . .  meh, not needed. But you could add something nice for ~$100.00

8GB now is the sweet spot for ram, it will only get cheaper, if you find yourself needing more buy it later. . .

if you want the cart I can e-mail it to you.

with the ssd would it delete one of the other drives or keep the 2 satas and add the ssd also?

and would that power supply be enough with the 2nd video card?

and would you say wait and add the other 8gb of memory or just do it all at once?

and i didnt see a sound card on there?

manly plan on playing with a set of gaming head phones or i might put a spare sony surround sound system on the computer

I am not sure how it impacts my sound... but i have some sound card i do not remember from when i got this one... but I use SteelSeries Serbia V2 headphones that came with a usb soundcard... and I mainly only use them and not my sound system which has amazing bass... but i live in a wood apartment that has paper walls. When i plug my headphones directly in to the PC which i would guess would be linked to the soundcard inside? my sound seems much worse, mostly noticeable in this game.. Headphones are 150 or so, and you may be able to get a better version then I have as mine are older.

If you have the money, why not have the SSD and the other HDD.

^                              ^ why not get the extra ram now instead of later.
