This is a really nice map. I've only played it once, but I have some feedback already, as well as a few issues:

  • Crashed three times in one game with only 7 players. One crash was in a Demolisher B, one was in a Thanatos D right when I took two UAC20 rounds to the nuts, and the third I can't quite remember the circumstances. This was the first time 0.5.2 has crashed for me after several games on all the usual maps.
  • Got stuck on the terrain in a few places, as did some of my friends. I'll get screenshots ASAP to point out the stuck locations. One was in a Demo, simply driving over a gentle hill. It didn't exactly look like treacherous ground, so I'm guessing it was a bug.
  • Some of the base ramps, when exiting them in a mech, makes the mech do that "oof" drop down thing, as if you had just stepped off a cliff and landed. It didn't slow down my Raven, but I think bigger mechs could get caught up by this. Again, can't remember exact locations, sorry. But I will keep an eye out for this in the future and note it next time I see it.
  • Terrain is REALLY steep in some places, to the point where it makes navigating a real pain. Not a bug, but thought I'd mention it. This is probably more of a personal taste thing, but I prefer maps where I don't suddenly find myself sliding downwards and then stop, opening me up to all sorts of return fire.
  • Fantastic visuals. This is one of the best looking maps to date. The cathedral is awesome, and an excellent BA combat area.
  • VERY BA-friendly map in general. This should be fun for a lot of unique situations. Didn't have a lot of time to play as one, but definitely will try out dedicated BA more often in the future.

Ill look into that, those ramps had some various iterations of themselves swapped in and out during development of the map.. looks like something may have been overlooked in relation to their collision proxies.

Yes, gentle sloping terrain shouldnt be getting tanks stuck at all.. there are a few areas on the map that are definately hazardous to drive tanks on or near.. but from your description my guess is the terrain will just need some smoothing in a few areas, screenshots will be very handy to track those down.
 
There were also some minor changes that we missed getting included in 0.5.2, things like opening the terrain properly to the edge of the stadium so the whole map is playable(underwater too), and a bunch of stuck spots and terrain smoothing along the waters edges.. those changes will be rolled out with our upcoming 0.5.3 hotfix.

Very much so, the cathedral area is designed to be BA friendly in relation to fighting mechs/tanks... lots of hiding spots and cover around there, but we also added a specific underground bunker complex of tunnels which are designed only for BA combat.. should provide some interesting fights when we get to overhauling & expanding our battlearmour mechanics ;)

No worries about the slow response. I actually haven't had a chance to play the map again so far, since nobody is running SA right now :< I may have to just launch an empty game to get some screens.

The underground bunker network sounds awesome, and I didn't even find that the first time. Also, BA overhaul? Sounds interesting!


And yeah, to everyone else: you should post your feedback here too if you've played the map ;) I didn't intend for this thread to just have MY feedback!

MechWars SA have it running and the GBL server. But those are based in Europe, I suspect you are too far away?

When I change the map to vista manually (sv_map SA_Vista), our Server crashes after 0-5 mins.
If it is selected via a SA - only Levelrotation.xml it seems to run fine.


I really like that underground base, we tried a BA-Only SA-Game yesterday.

The map is only playable up to 10 players max, with more players it is just a gorefest.^^

But kidding aside... in certain games* it seems that germans like to think "Europe = Deutwschland"
-> On so called European servers, it seems everyone just talks german.

*Example: Ragnarök online.  I actually got called names on one of their servers when I was chatting to someone (who was italian I think) in english... <.<

MWBU is also keeping the map in rotation on the California server, and we'll likely keep it in rotation for a good while so people can get a feel for the new map and provide feedback.

Hopped into a server by myself with it today and it seems like a really cool map.  Would love to try it out.  Kind of sad that I haven't seen anyone running it or that SA/LMS aren't as popular as they should be.

Did the problem with SA map not rotating ever get fix?  ie if no one joins the map to ever start the match the SA map stays on even when it's time limit is passed
Want to give organized battles a spin?
