TSA is boring
« on: October 23, 2011, 02:34:41 PM »
Hi

I haven't played the mod very long yet, but I'm getting bored already. The problem is that everyone seems to only play TSA and on very few maps. Every time I join a TC server it takes a long time before more players join. Also last time (0.51 and Official MWLL #2 server) finally when there was decent amount of players the server crashed. Back to 0 players after server restarted...

I think the TSA mode may keep some players playing who only want to play Deathmatch, but tactics and strategy liking players like me see it lacking. Because there aren't any control points on the map the only thing that matters are kills. Usually the TSA games are just long range camping in same spots as there is no need at all to advance forward. Everyone who goes forward is usually just foolish and soon gets shot. With long range camping you don't waste tickets...

What's your opinion about the game modes? Are there any good TC servers in Europe?

I enjoy TC, TSA, daylight, and SA, in that order.

TSA can be great when two teams actually want to play as a team, rather than as a group of individuals.  That does happen, even on public servers.

Further if you find yourself stuck in a boring campfest, do something different.    For example, go round the back with a stealthy brawler and kill those missile boaters dead dead dead.

Same here, Action83. The one step I think everybody should be able to take: Stay away from the XI-server. It has been using the same five (and quite old) maps for probably four months now, 80% of which are TSA. As long as the sheep keep going there, it will stay like this - but you are not forced to support that.

I can guarantee you that I will join if I find a populated TC-server (one player or more). If I don't find one, I will hop onto one myself. The only real problem is that this mod is not well known and it lacks the player-base to have a quick game on your favorite map. Having to choose between waiting on an empty server and playing the thousandth crappy game on a worn-out map, most players go for the latter one. And I assume that to be one of the reasons why people are willing to quit and turn towards other games after a period of frustration and boredom.

XI has TC_Marshes at least. And I find TSA_Mirage fun. Does Huntress even use TC maps currently? I never catch a night with a TC map on it :(

Huntress has the 280 (?) ping limit, which puts it just out of reach of many of us not in the US, sadly.

i really prefer TSA because it does not require good team coordination. TC can be fun, if at least 70% of your team know, what they are doing. Rarely happens.

Main problem is in XI and its map rotation. Really crappy. Visually bugged Mirage, crashy (from time to time) Marshes, LRM fest Sandblasted. Palisades are good, but played too often. Admin, XRay, doesn't want to change anything, just ignores all wishes. WTF IS IT THE MOST POPULAR SERVER????? i just have no choice but to play there. Custom maps? Will never see them there.

All other servers are useless for EU/RU (like Huntress) or unpopulated.

It's at least speculated that the XI server is hacked and doesn't check for valid CD-keys. I'm not sure if it's true.

One thing is certain, the dev team has to make fixing the server crashes a priority. Otherwise the mod can never get more popular. Every time a server that isn't very popular crashes all the players in there are lost.

Welcome to testing a Beta, where a patch can flip the mod upside down.  People do need to realize this is in development and not a full working product. They have it heavily working, but there are still some surats eating the cables.

*edit* I am sure there will be a hotfix once they figure out what is causing the issues.

Limit is 265 actually not 280.  ;)
I remember it as I played on it yesterday.

I too prefer to play TC maps, it make for much more interesting and fun play play.
I dont mind TSA either, SA is not really for me as I'm not an FFA kinda player
But as said TC is the best and the marshes TC map on the XI server has become "old and boring" now, played it too many times.
I'll gladly join a TC server if there is one with players on it.
Perhaps a server with TC maps mostly/only would be worth considering?

I also avoid the XI server like the plague, there is something about the way ppl play on that server, I just cant put my finger on it, that feel off.
I had many times when I felt like I got killed in situation where I could not possibly have been hit, I'm not sure how to put it into words.
Its as if someone on the other team can see me and shoot at me through walls and other terrain obstacles.
I'm not saying this is how it is, just that it very often felt that way when I played on that server.

On Mirage by chance? That map has funny draw distances and some times a mech can be 300m away and still not visible.

And, yep, Xi is a hacked server and does not check for CD keys.

That one too, but also noticed it on Palisades and a couple other maps I dont remember right now
And I played on mirage on other servers and its not been anywhere near as bad as on the XI server.

I just wish there was some way to prevent these kinds of servers from being put up.
I know ppl want to play the mod, but this kind of server actually encourages software piracy by saying that you can play on that server with a pirated copy of Crysis wars.

I actually spent money to buy the crysis maximum edition when I could not find my Warhead/Wars Discs after I moved because I wanted to play this mod.
So I'm sitting on 2 copies of Wars with legit keys.
Then again the thought of getting a pirated version of Wars never occurred to me, I just bought the game again.
And the game are so cheap now that its not really worth it anyway.

Besides, if you have a legit copy you will have access to support should you encounter problems.

TSA can be the most fun or the least fun. If the back and forth epic struggle of teams is in play, its a blast. If otherwise, take a stealthy brawler and dedicate your next few lives to taking out a huit/LT/missile campers, see how you shake things up  ;D

though TC is still teh bestest

TSA CAN be awesome, with the right people, even in pub. I recommend the Server 'RUS' I usually have reather enjoyable TSA matches there (check out the link in my Signature)
Ghiest: I suggest trying to control your forum torrettes with copious amounts of weed.
