[MWLL Team] So I have to ask
« on: November 01, 2011, 01:26:39 PM »
With the announcement of Mechwarrior Online. How does this affect (if at all) the MWLL Team and mod?

I wouldn't imagine very much since they'll both be without cost to play.  One will have a persistence and upgrade model.  One has a combined arms approach.  When Living Legends becomes feature complete I would be willing to bet that they'll actually be fairly competitive in gameplay quality/amount of features.

Good thing for everyone is that they won't have to choose which game they'd like to play based on their wallet.

HAHAHAAHAHA, +1 for both Leer and Capper (which is now 100!)

I think that all the news/hype will get people interested in BT again and hopefully more people will come across MWLL as either preparation or a stopgap until MWO comes out.

Hopefully they then realise that it is an amazing game in its own right and we get a massive playerbase

Ditto, so much with MWO is unknown, I feel in the end they will be very different experiences...right now we know MWLL is a pretty bad ass beta.

yep, right now MWO says it'll be ready in 2012, but i gotta say if it's going to be summer of 2012 that's seem pretty ambitious.

I'm trying to be cautiously optimistic about MW:O, but right now we have a great product with MW:LL and it's only in the beta.

Should the dev team keep working on LL, we could be so lucky to have two current MW products at the same time, which hasn't happened since say, MW3 and MechCommander?

Here is what tells me people misunderstand the OP.

I did not say "Hey MWLL guys, think MWO going to kill your mod" I asked how it would affect if at all the team and mod. The answers I was expect were more along the lines of:

"Yea we're pretty psyched about it too, and its re-lit the passion for this mod" or "It's great to see an official title but we think MWLL is going to stack up well against it".

I think it will be nearly the same effect that Battlefield Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty Black Ops, and Hello Kitty's Adventure Island have had on MWLL's development and player community.

In fact maybe there's even a slight chance that widespread news of MWO will bring new people here out of curiosity.

Why do you have to ask?

I think it will be nearly the same effect that Battlefield Bad Company 2, Battlefield 3, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty Black Ops, and Hello Kitty's Adventure Island have had on MWLL's development and player community.
None of those were Mechwarrior games. I myself will have to check MWO out, just because I need to. And with each day only consisting of 24 hours, I might have to decide for the overall better game in the end. As far as I can tell now, this will be MWLL. But if a good amount of bugs and problems keeps to persist, I might decide for MWO, since it is a commercial product with a full team of developers behind it. There won't be any "engine limitations" and whatever real problems you might encounter in MWLL.

Just saying this because I consider myself an average player and think others might think alike. I will try hard to stick to MWLL rather than switch to MWO, but if the latter one manages to copy 99.9% of MWLLs features and add new ones on top, I would have to wave this great mod good bye.

I plan on playing both for the best I can... but unless it flops my time will probably be more with MWO.  I do love MWLL's combined arms approch though. It really makes the game play and the battlefield

I'm of the mind that MWO is a year a way at least.  As far as people coming to check out MWLL in the mean time. I know myself and some of the other guys are using MWLL banners to try to get the word out on the MWO boards.
