Hm. I was able to put enemy Demo on the nose of my Heph, elevating him and denying any way to shoot me  ;D .

May be we can just increase collision damage. This may prevent mechs stepping on tanks, tanks ramming mech legs, Heph ramming tanks... And as well make it a good tactical move when it is really needed.

Not quite working as intended.  Consider intentional flipping to be an exploit.  Ramming for damage is intended though.

Ramming Aeros for damage is an exploit!

eeh how would a higher collision damage prevent players from ramming???

If it is a mutual higher damage on collision, i.e. both the ramming player and the target, it's an incitement for players  to actually do that more than currently, since it then gives them a bonus pursuing such habits. Its counter intuitive if it's only dealt to the player ramming the other, not to say that trees and other non-animated objects would be causing this on the players too.

No reason for a Heph to ram Demo. Demo would barely notice it, while Heph would loose significant part of armour. Ramming your enemy would cost armour for the rammer too.

Just make it like WoT, where the heavier you are, the less damage you take and the more tour enemy does

so:
Vehicle 1 (demo/parti) = 80 tons
Vehicle 2 (Hepatitis)    = 40 tons

Vehicle 1 = twice as heavy as vehicle 2 = takes preset collision damage x difference in speed x 0.5
Vehicle 2 = half as heavy as vehicle 1 = takes preset collision damage x difference in speed x 2

thereby, heph rams demo/parti, heph takes a collision damage hit 4 times larger than the demo/parti does, with speed factored in for logical reasons and to make hangar fender benders not ridiculous (especially if you add a difference in speed point where no damage is taken at all)

What if the rammer had a Spartan era battering ram on the front of their tank and yelled "This is Mechwarrior!" before impacting? Would that offset the damage to the attacker's vehicle?

I agree with Tripod, that would be a good way to handle collision damage.

Please allow me to clarify.  I did not have the ramming of aircraft in mind when I responded to the initial post.  My personal opinion of intentional ramming of aerospace, is that I frown upon it.  I would not go so far as to say it should never occur, only that design should discourage it.

As far as that goes, what about making damage to rammed aircraft depend on the speed vector and weight difference.. A Sparrowhawk ramming a Shiva with a closing speed of 40kph should probably kill the little guy and only do minor damage to the Shiva.

Sorry for necro, hadn't seen response.  Still relevant I think.

Right now, we're relying on the physics engine to handle that stuff.  It can be wonky, and award damage to the lighter/slower vehicle.  Not sure we can fix this, but we might be able to try a work-around.  Worth considering.

Also, there should be a monetary discouragement for ramming.  Bringing a fresh vehicle onto the battlefield and ramming with it should be detrimental points/money wise, while ramming as a last-ditch effort should pay off in some cases.  Economy and pricing balance remain WiP.

Yea they're on top of ramming something...that's how they got the Hepatitis.

Good to hear that it'll be addressed. I had this happen to me when I was in a Partisan\Huit. I thought it was cheap as hell. I wouldn't care nearly as much if I could pivot my turret down enough to hit the person. Without that, ramming, and then shooting a tank at point-blank range is a cheap tactic. While they're at it, we should tie ASF to a pole, so it can't turn around, or mount a unit to the underside of a mech.

:( but ramming is fun.. nah kidding, its a great tactic though to stop a demo from being able to shoot you.. i actually had one where the demo was stuck on top of me and i was running around the map with it on my heph like a trophy, lol.  its not as easy to flip them though, you have to nail the other tank just right on its side to even get it to flip up and most of the time they just bounce off and land back on their tracks.

i want ramming like it was in MW2 Mercs!
No damage, but you can punt Mechs over half a map using a hovercraft!
