Repairbay killing
« on: November 07, 2011, 12:51:20 AM »
I know people hate and frown upon killing aircrafts in the runway.
So I'm curious as to what people think about killing someone in a repair bay.

I lost count of the number of times I was in a repair by repairing my mech, and along comes some idiot who is so bad a shot he can only kill me when I'm defenseless in a repair bay.

It really pisses me off as I have no way of defending myself when powered down for repairs, and they can usually kill me in the time it takes to power up.

Opinions?

Dont always know they are there.
Not sure how ECM works, but I suspect when running passive with ECM it makes you undetectable to radar.
Noticed many times that I cant see my opponent on radar even at point blank range (under 300m), even though I run active.

So I go to repair and some idiot sneaks up on me and shoots me not from a distance but in my face (under 100m).
How am I supposed to know they are there if I they hide behind terrain and dont show on radar?
Others just sit at extreme range and pick you off while in the bay as well.

I mean if a player are so poor a shot that you have to pick off a defenseless opponent when they are sitting powered in a repair bay, maybe this is not the game for them.

Okay, but forward repair bays are in bases that are almost always under contention.  They're there if you really really need them and have the opportunity, but shutting down in the middle of the map is never a good idea.  Someone standing in a repair bay is just begging to be shot, as damage interrupts the repair process, so it has nothing to do with them being a poor player, but rather you making yourself a big juicy target.

Try retreating to your main base.

Mocking someone for taking advantage of your tactical fu*kup? That's hilarious. Don't repair in the middle of a firefight.

I think he's trying to bring attention to the conflicting points of view on repairing aircraft being attacked and repairing mechs being attacked.

Personally, I think it's all fair game and that servers that like to add petty and unnecessary rules that confuse new players are to blame.

Hey, if there was a forward aero base with some aero repairing while I was taking it over, hell yeah I'll shoot him

Main bases are a different story

I will always shoot someone repairing just to piss them off. Sometimes they power up while not fully repaired to try and kill me, which is even better.  :P

My favorite thing is hopping on their head as a mech or battlearmor while they repair, then carving their arms off.

I do both, sometimes i let them repair, sometimes i dont.
Bit like in Mercs, sometimes i would not shoot at a mech thats shutdown on overheat, sometimes i did.

If the person is obviously new to the game, and my points wont really suffer from cutting them some slack for the sake of enjoying the game, then i do so.
If they are on the other hand handing me my head on a plate, then its no mercy asked and none given.

You have to understand the code of duty and honor that rules those who pilot these engines of destruction. Placing such an awesome weapon in the hands of an individual implies a similar gesture of trust

I remember I was able to kill the pilot in Nova Cat that was repairing in the middle bay of Mirage. Proceeded to take the now cockpit'ed mech and use it against the enemy team.

I think that this change was for the best. No more people shutting down at a bay and laughing as people pump damage into him and he has the C-bills to keep the repairs up.

I love taking Gauss rifles or ERPPCs on TC Thunder rift and sniping people as they try to repair in the d4 and e5 bases.  Approaching d4 from the east, and e5 from the west, you have perfect line of sight into the repair gantry, so you can suppress an entire base's defenders with only 1 mech, because chances are all the assets guarding a base are brawlers are won't be able to fire back at you.

Even before the repairbay changes I'd still do it just to harass the enemy and make extra money and points, and if you did enough burst damage you could still destroy arms and external weapon pods.

Heaven forbid we treat it like actual warfare and play to win. Might hurt someone's feelings.
