its too bad the GAU-8 isnt in battletech, that would solve our RAC woes.

Technically you could make the argument that the UAC20 is the GAU-8 of the future. The lore is pretty clear that all autocannons have different bores, rates of fire, firing methods, etc. and that they're all grouped into the 'AC20' category because they all do the same damage.

A 120mm smoothbore sabot will punch a hole through an enemy tank... but a burst of GAU-8 API to the top can do the same... they both would fit the UAC20 classification

I love how everyone always brings up the A10 with the GAU-8 as if it's some kind of holy grail... newsflash people, BT has that! It's called the 'Mechbuster. That's right, 1 AC20. Armour evidently outpaced weapon development somewhere along the line to some degree.

i think id prefer to have some backup weapons? or maybe its just me...

and for blowing armored targets to hell it is the holy grail, unless you have AT missiles...

It does not, and will not.  It's not considered cannon, and thus, is even less likely then the HAGs to ever go in.
