The self righteous "it's their own fault for sucking" attitude is a community killer. Sure, vets can group up and roflstomp a bunch of newbies, but it's a dick move and will only drive people away. Do people really feel like big shots for "winning" in such a one sided "game?" I hope not, that'd be really sad.

That's just your opinion, not the communities.

I don't mind these threads as long as they provide said screenshots or videos.

The WoW comparison is totally disingenuous. Maybe if WoW had just a few servers with a total of 30 or so players.

Yes, people on many games' forums are dicks. That shouldn't be used as justification to act like an asshat in MWLL, either in game or on the forums.

Haha, this is delicious!

Stacking does happen. Always has, always will. Pros will be asshats, noobs will be noobs.
As long as winning is more fun than losing, people will gravitate towards the winning team.

How is the WoW comparison disingenuous in any way?  As I understand it, your contention is that assholes in a community are what kills community population.  I am bringing up a real life example that proves that to be false.  WoW has tons of assholes and trolls, yet the WoW community is gigantic.  Every gaming community is full of assholes, that doesn't stop them from growing.  The friendliness of the community has almost nothing to do with the size of said community.  Rather it is the popularity of the game itself.

Also let's put the straw man away and actually respond to what's being said.  I know it's harder but it's also more productive.  Nobody is arguing that people on many games forums are dicks therefore it's fine to act like an asshat in MWLL.

Where is the rage thread directed at the bad players for all stacking on one team?

Only thing I want to mention in this thread is that I seriously had to frown when I read this. I am truly surprised no one turned "bad players stacking on one team" into "sluttily dressed girls getting raped at event" yet, because, you know, it is really hard to resist putting these two sentences next to each other; not that I know why anyone would want to do that, though.

this

Although I think the main reason for this happening isn't bad intentions, but players joining other players that they've had a good time with before. Chances are these players aren't new and must be at least slightly good at the game for other people to have had a good time with them. Because of this, relatively good people crowd together and end up beating the other team

I can't count the number of times I've seen a bunch of buds on the other team, but had to (well not really, but you know what I mean) join the group of no-namers getting thrashed to keep the game semi-fair at the cost of my own fun

It's just human nature to want to play with your friends. They didn't stack because they like stomps. Although a bit more willpower with stacking is encouraged :P

I don't know man, I personally find some of the lack of responsibility disheartening. With such a small community any bad behavior can have a ripple effect, which is a fact...so why take the risk? With a larger player base I wouldn't care, I only care that this game thrives but the simple fact is we don't have the numbers. Everyone should be doing everything they can to make the game a better experience for all, that doesn't often happen in the pub games and sadly I don't think it will change if the forums can be any indicator.

The parts I find that really piss me off, is when you are stomping the other team, WHY, for the love of Kerensky WHY?!? Do you continue to roll in Assaults and Clan Heavies.  When it is 1000-2500 and the winning team is still tromping in the Assault, WHY? Make your tiny prick feel big?

Only games I will continue to steam roll the other team is in clan matches. But you are all on teamspeak and laughing as the lights pop like pimples.  If My team starts to stomp, I will  hope in sparrowhawks and return to lights. Game should be fun for all, not just the winning team.

Nothing is more frustrating in a game, when even WITH team work, your 3 lights and 1 medium vs 4 guys in Assaults, yeah that pisses me off. Grow a set and grab a medium or something. If you are stomping, take charge and stop rolling out the 100k assets.  It is not even fun for you, two shooting the light mech, oh good and amusing yes, fun? Not really.

What's fun to do as a vet is to place artificial limitations on yourself or adopt ridiculous gimmicks for sport to see how well you can do, and just stop giving a damn about winning or losing. Lately I've been limiting myself to only tanks with a silly smurf name. Next up I think I'll see just how effective I can be using nothing but Sparrowhawks and VTOLs.

You could even try picking one single weapon system that you absolutely must have on whatever vehicle you choose, such as a mandatory AC10 or something. Bonus points if you pick the worst possible weapon for the situation (CLPLs on Inferno, short-range weapons on huge maps, etc). It's like self-trolling for comedy's sake, and it also prevents you from contributing significantly to the roflstomp feedback loop if you play on a winning team and constantly get your ass killed. :)

[Edit] Now I also want to try out NO BRAKES! mode where you turn on auto-drive (the K key) to max throttle in any tank you drive and cannot turn it off, meaning you constantly stay moving forward. Now that would be hard as balls to play!

Why the silly smurf name?
I can imagine some taking offence at not being treated seriously.

/Merf - Never understood the smurf name mentality.

Just so it's clear I'm not playing seriously. Like when I was doing the tank run I played as MY TANK IS FIGHT because it amused me. Not trying to hide my identity or anything! Mostly just for my own entertainment :p

I have no idea why someone would be offended by that, either.

Unfortunately, I don't think the people who stack/stomp are ever going to change. They feel perfectly justified in facerolling noobs, for whatever reason. Small penises maybe, who knows.

I'd love to see a team shuffle mechanic where the server sees things are going downhill and switches things up.. Kinda like TF2, I guess.

People need to take a step back and realize that not everyone who is doing well on a winning team is a malicious jerk out to destroy the community.  Sometimes people just aren't paying attention, and the team balance mechanics currently in the game are bare bones.  Sometimes the teams are balanced and then people leave the game, unbalancing the teams.  There are plenty of factors out there other than intentional maliciousness on the part of the people called out in the OP that cause unbalanced teams.  Sometimes people intentionally stack, I'm not saying it never happens, but more often than not one of the many other factors comes into play and causes the imbalance.

Ironically, divisive posts like this one end up hurting the community more than a couple of buddies playing on the same team and doing well together (how dare they?!  Don't they know about their responsibilities to The Community (tm)?).

Something where manual team switching is disallowed, but you automatically get switched depending on your score if your team is totally dominating might be a good idea, like if score difference is greater than 50% and stays that way for more than a minute. This would include shuffling newbies to the winning team in exchange for some high-scoring players. Maybe the switch happens only when you die (for low-scorers) and at any time for high-scorers? Might be a pain in the ass to deal with though constantly getting thrown out of your mech. Maybe once you get switched, you are immune to further switches for the rest of the game? Perhaps also a warning timer countdown? You will be switched in X seconds or something.

Personally I don't join a side based on score. I join based on numbers per side. I've witnessed the stacking issues and I don't think one should switch mid round. After the round is over it might be a good idea to wait a few minutes for the pubbers to join sides then fill out the open spots to prevent stacking. It may help to retain players longer, since they will enjoy it more. The goal should be to raise our numbers of players and get them to stay, not to make them leave. After all, the players make MWLL relevant in the first place. We need more people playing, hundreds if possible. I thought Priest was going to do something about that, but I haven't seen anything.
