A new MWLL player's thoughts from the MWO board

From user Jezebel over at the MWO boards.  Just wanted to share this with the devs and community as a nice postive view of MWLL  ;D

Quote
MWLL is actually a lot more fun than I expected, especially with league mode on and unlimited CBills. I can see a lot of joy being gleaned from prearranged team matches.

I don't care much for the popular play mode with low c-bill starting and having to kill things to pilot a decent machine - it's so easy to get screwed out of upgrading, even if you were contributing heavily to the team, just because you didn't get the kill shot. So I prefer to play with unlimited c-bills and on coms so we can all stay in a similar class of 'Mech.

As for EA? <shrug> I bought Battlefield 3. And Crysis 2. They turned down a good thing, we all know that. But I'm not going to boycott them for that kind of business decision. I save my boycotting for real issues.

Anyway, it's well worth what I paid for Crysis Warhead. I see MWLL as a pleasant way to get my 'Mech fix until next summer.
In the meantime, I hope more of you decide to take a chance on it.
Supporting MWLL isn't going to hurt or undermine MWO, and if anything it will help get you in shape, and shake your mind up a little and get it away from, oh, say, the MW4 playstyle. I don't say this lightly: MWLL is harder than MW4 (which was not an easy game if played with any semblance of finesse). I say this from the perspective of someone who was pretty darn good at MW4 ( shut UP, yes I WAS, jeez you people... sorry I just heard about 10 different brains thinking "she wasn't that good" all at the same time -_- cough ). MWLL is challenging me tactically, not to mention the 'Mechs pilot like the big lugs they are instead of like performance cars. They don't turn on a dime, they run into things if you aren't careful, and dangit running through a bunch of trees can rip your arms off. Guess how I figured that one out?

Alot more fun than she expected?

Wtf do people expect then? I would've guessed the screenies alone would be enough to get one to at least try the game, its a sexy looking mechwarrior game gawd damn it.

Has warhead made us that obscure? :(

Also, interesting that she said its harder than MW4 was; I never played any MW game online before this.

Well...I didn't expect much before playing. I've seen attempts at this sort of thing before and it was always just bad, either because of game engine limitations or developer limitations. MWLL may move at the speed of molasses in reaching 1.0, but it is a mod of surprisingly professional quality.

Just read through that thread,

Some old BT elitist spent most of the pages arguing that all deviation from BT turns the game into a twitchfest.
I wonder if he's actually ever tried playing MWLL. I hope he does and spends a little while extracting foot out of this mouth.

MWLL is about consistency in aiming and accuracy, maneuvering well and situational awareness. Twitch skills don't come into it in the slightest, even lasers require consistent aiming.

His closed minded opinion really does worry me.

I almost raged a tiny bit at the disliking the low cbill part.  MWLL matches are so much more exciting at the beginning when everybody is still piloting light mechs because it doesn't take long for nubs to get into their Partisan Cs, start begging for NARCs and drag the game into a stale campfest.

I really like reading comments from people outside the MWLL community. Gives me a little perspective.

I find the comments about preferring unlimited Cbills interesting. I often wonder how new players feel about being stuck in cheaper assets. I introduced MWLL to a lan party a while back. While some guys loved the fact you had to earn your mech, just as many hated it.

Twitchfest is a relative term. Its not nearly the twitchfest of your average FPS, but you still need that same skillset to do well.   Course I have no idea why one would complain about that in MWLL and expect any difference in MW:O.

Theres a guy named Kay over there who probably has 300 posts already. He is a champion of anti twitch, and the supremecy of the TT game. Wonder if its the same guy, will read later. There is a large number of people who were very gung ho for COF and all kinds of things related to the TT game. M sure the dev interview really burst their bubble yesterday.
was thinking of offering up the idea of a new video of mwll to put in my sig over there.
I think some appropriate music would be the TRIGUN opening theme.

Most people seem to think that mod=bad for some reason...

Also that Kay guy just makes me rage, if he has his way we'd have WoT with even worse chance-to-hit/chance-to-damage dice rolling.

Also banish the thought you need to buy a bargain bin game to play it.... because who the hell pays for games these days?,

I bet all those people would more than happily dump money into their MWO accounts.

Umm, me! I still like to have the actual disc too, instead of downloading it from someone. I'm old fashioned though and still remember when the Atari and Oddyssey gaming systems were new.

Anyone who's played a mech game before for any substantial amount of time is going to find the concept unpleasant.  Hell I've been playing MWLL since the first beta release and I still hate it.  When you've spent years joining in whatever you want it's painful to join a pub match midround and have to fight heavies and assaults with an uller or osiris.

Because the last few attempts to create a MW mod on a non-MW game have been bad.  Extremely.

It's a good thing we have this mode called Test of Strength that lets all players start with a large quantity of C-Bills and purchase whatever their hearts desire.

Starting off in Assaults is not how most of our modes are meant to work, but provided the server admin has looked at out league mode options they should be able to configure cvars to allow for just about any starting configuration your heart desires.

Very true but kinda sad because it creates a chicken or egg.

If we had more players we could probably populate more servers and have a viable ToS one... so its like we need more players to get more players...
I don't think I've played a well set up ToS game yet... its always 99999999 Cbills or something stupid like that, would be interested to see how a strict ticket based ToS game would play out with 200,000 cbills and a 15 minute timer.

That's why I typically don't even consider ToS to be an option.  I've yet to see one with any sort of balance and actually have players in it :-\

Is there a calling for a server config like that?  If so NBT would be glad to host it.
