I don't think I've played a well set up ToS game yet... its always 99999999 Cbills or something stupid like that, would be interested to see how a strict ticket based ToS game would play out with 200,000 cbills and a 15 minute timer.
That's why I typically don't even consider ToS to be an option.  I've yet to see one with any sort of balance and actually have players in it :-\

Is there a calling for a server config like that?  If so NBT would be glad to host it.

I would say yes.  It would make some great TSA maps fun again, but I would also like to see player tickets set to 3 or 4.  Die more than that and it's game over until the next map.
Fifteen minutes is a bit short, IMO, maybe more like 25?  Would be cool to see something done in this regard.

I suck!! But WE are AWESOME.  We started a unit.  What's that?!  YOU WANNA TOUCH MY UNIT?!! :P ^^12thVR Recruitment Page(clickthepic) ;)

Well, the first I had senn of MW:LL I couldn't really decide what to make of it - in the various videos I had watched I just couldn't see what was really going on. After I had died a lot of times in my first three matches, I found the learning curve actually possible to scale without falling on my ass too hard! I have played few games that are so easy to get into and yet so hard to master - which is a really good thing. I am still struggling to find a role I really enjoy, because of the choice between vehicles/BA. But I enjoy messing around trying out this and that.

I don't actually dislike the rulse set of the public server's I've been on - not being able to transfer more than 5k and the need to earn C-bills in order to get better equipment. Maybe that's because I don't crave anything heavier than a Loki (cause frankly, I can't really play anything heavier than that). Plus, it's actually enjoyable farming c-bills as a BA and doling it out to others on the team who can utilize the buck for more bang.

...it's painful to join a pub match midround and have to fight heavies and assaults with an uller or osiris.
I actually find that not so bad. Just hang with some heavier mechs on your team. When they engage the enemy, they're probably gonna draw most of the fire, while you can happily pump e.g. wave after wave of your MRM Raven's missiles into a heavy or assault mech (which nets you loads of cbills due to the weight class difference), while your C3 is steadily earning you money. After a while, RTB with 50-60k and buy a heavy if you want it.

It is in fact very easy to score money with light against heavies. Money modifier is high, and you are a small fast target of low priority.

I have also suggested trying a 20-min 4-tickets 200k ToS match. This may be something really fun to play. but it may cause troubles for new players.

Problem is getting players to it. Even if they would enjoy the scenario, few join empty servers.
I know 7.WD ran a number of servers with different settings but they rarely saw use.

We used to run Sandbox Sunday on Huntress now and then in the past, setting it up with ToS with 9999999 CBills to let new players test things out. From in game comments there were those that aprpeciated it, but eventually it could not hold on to players for that long. The influx of new players to the mod was (still is I would say) too slow to sustain a viable population interested in just trying stuff out for it to work as a continuous event. had to "save up" on new players and then run one of these Sandbox Sundays. Whenever population in these kinds of games drop too far you get some that go up in Aero or something similar and suddenly the whole point of new players testing things is lost because only a subset of the assets can be tested properly against Aero (Same can be said if there are _no_ aero but that lets you ply around with a larger portion of the assets to a degree that you can evaluate what you are doing).

As for a balanced ToS scenario where CBills are set so as you _can_ just barely buy the most expensive unit but then only have a little bit left for repairs could work. This would allow for some gameplay decision like "do I take the more expensive one, leaving me only enough money for a light on my second 'life' or do I go for a cheaper one so I can field a medium twice?". Problem will be to a) get players to your server, and b) explain the concept to new players.

TSA and TC are fairly straight forward for new players to get into without having to read what the objectives actually are. People may not grasp the nuances of the modes but they get the gist of it rather quickly. While in ToS people will go "oh! i have cash!" proceed to use it all and when they die and have no cash to buy something else they are stuck for the rest of the game without being able to get any kind of asset. This leads to the new player thinking the server (or worse the mod if this was a "trying it out" round) sucks and goes somewhere else (to one of the two other populated servers running TSA/TC).

There's always gonna be that one ass who hides in the hangar all day and holds everyone up. Kbucy, for instance.

Blazing Aces used to do a nice TOS server that was fun to play and was usually full. I don't mine 10 million cbills as long as the ticket count is reasonably small. e.g. <100. 100 tickets is 20 dead assault mechs (inc pilot). Reasonable for a team with 10-12 players on each side.

Take a Raven with C3 and you earn really really fast.
I like to earn the Mech and everyone starts with a small one.
And in the SP of all the MW-Games you also hat to start with smaller Mechs at the beginning of the campaign.

But it could be an option to give everyone who joins a math the lowest rank of the acutal players.
So you don't start at 49k but 65k or something like this.

Yeah i think the trick to a ToS based game is the tickets and time to play.  Honestly, IMO, anything over 15-20 mins in a unlimited cbills game feels VERY samey since the players tend to devolve back into a trench line mentality.

The ultimate game mode for me would be an ToS unlimited cbill match, that's based on the right amount of tickets, played TC style so there are objectives to keep the battle flowing and a time limit that lets the player try out different tactics for deep capping, flanking, concentrated pushes, etc but not drag it out since there will folks that just sit in some capture points in their super expensive assets.

Full? That server was never full. At best, right after patches it would see 5-8 people for a few hours a day while people tested the new shit, before those players returned to XI, or WD or huntress. The [A] server was never popular.

I have always found having any stuff avaliable without need to earn it boring. Having 1 mlc CBills server is fine to test things or have a bit of fun. But it is just boring to play for long.
