My two favorite mechs so far are the Puma C and the Mad Cat B.

Puma C

Replace the 2xMGs with a ER small laser. A little boost, but useful.

Mad Cat B

Remove the gauss, replace with Armor, heat sinks, speed, and electronics. In that order. No more ammo needed, and a bit better performance.

Demo Prime. Remove 1ton ammo, add to armor. Cause what the hell 5 tons for 2 weapons?

Huit Prime, remove 6 tons ammo, add to Engine. >.>; Or maybe armor.

Puma C
Mad Cat B
I will try to be gentle here. The MadCatB is already (one of) the best performing mech, combining speed, armor and firepower. It had some price increases for a reason.
Giving it even more heatsinks would make it even more a rape machine, and GECM... well in this case you would not even see it coming.
Once the mechlab is available, we will probably see such variants. Same with the PumaC. I like it a lot, too. And I would also remove the MGs.
But I really hope the devs will have the weapon, equipement and armor prices adjusted by that time. So that creating extreme boats will also be extremely expensive.

Vulture B. Remove all of the CSSRM and replace them with 4 dual Csrm6. And nickname it something catchy.... hmm the storm cloud? hail storm?
Thunder cloud? shaky shaky? bird droppings?

Shadow cat B. Remove the 3 small beam lasers, remove the jump jets, remove the GECM, add 1 dual srm 6, and more heat sinks if there is room left (DOUBTFUL).

I'm not sure if it isn't over its limit already with just a single lbx20.

GECM? If you remove the gauss, it could be AECM. The gauss seems like a good addition to it because it makes no heat, but you end up worrying about ammo, and it performs differently than the lasers, so it either throws off your aim or you forget about it. Removing it lets you have 14 free tons for armor, speed, and using the other weapons. Epic in other words.

Metal Storm.

Edit: Actually, I move that the PartyRAC be nicknamed Metal Storm.

Dropping the streak guidance on the SSRM Mad Dog seems a bit of a non-change, really. I'd go the opposite direction and make it an ATM boat. Something like 4x ATM-9 plus MASC to let you keep enemies from getting inside your minimum range. Group-fired you'd have enough missiles to pretty much negate LAMS, and chain-fired you'd have the same fire-hose effect as the SSRM model but with better guidance and double the range. You'd even have some token anti-air capability with it...

And electronics should be a no-brainer - right now, GECM is such a good deal that every mech, ever, would be better off dropping half a ton of armour and grabbing GECM - pretty much the only reason to not have GECM is if you want AECM instead or if it's a chassis that is designed to run passive all the time, forever.

Going off topic here but wouldn't 4 atm9 be too heavy for the vulture?

CLRM20 and ATM9 both weigh 5 tons, so it should work.  We have a Vulture decked out with every other missile system the Clans have to offer, so why not ATMs too?

Honestly, if everything in the game had LRMs replaced with the equivalent in SRMs or ATMs, both the mechs and the game would be better for it.

Bushy E:
PPC -> ERLBL (+2 t) (assuming CBT weight values apply for these weapons)
SRM4 -> SRM6 (-1 t)
1 extra ton for ammo (-1 t)

Better ranged accuracy, more punch at close range and better longevity.
Beware of programmers who carry screwdrivers, lockpicks and flamethrowers.

CJW is recruiting! PM me if you are looking to join us or just want to ask some questions. Robust sense of humour and a good attitude required. Left legs of Urbanmechs need not apply.

Sorry but 'lol'.

The nice thing about the actual Bushy E is the fact that all its weapons (AC20/PPC/SRM) require the same lead in a short range fight. A LBL would totally break this.
I know more then one dedicated 'E' pilot, an not one of them wants a LBL on it or miss the PPC. And changing the srm4 to srm6 would cause another issue:
The srm6 deplete their ammo by far faster then the mounted srm4. The actual srm4 ammo lasts around as long as the AC20(+ its spare ton) ammo does. Quite nice IMO and I see no use in changing it.

I find that most of my favourite variants don't need any changes (what can be done with Mauler D? It is already perfect!). So, i will post changes for the things I like but find some of equipment not matching.

Vulture B: SSRMs to SRMs. Now you need some skill for it.

Vulture Prime: LRM15+DHSs

Oro E: -BAP, +GECM or better lasers (if possible) or +Armour.

Huit B (Anaconda?): HS to DHS.

Thanatos A: back to HGauss.

Thanatos C: no flamers, + DHS. Not sure...

NCat aka "Thermal lance": -2CLPL, +2CHLL, +4 DHS. I will lolalpha your Atlas =D.

Awesome D: no LAMS (useless there), more DHS.

P.S. Usually, I find most variants to be good as they are.
