Theoretical Clan misc. weapon types.
« on: November 23, 2011, 08:08:14 AM »
I was wondering what Clan versions of specialty IS weapons would look like, so I compared what changes they did to the base in the IS and applied it to Clan weapons. Then I got to mixing different types, then eventually adding new classes, and eventually I got this mess of stuff.

Yes: I was very, very bored. I figured that as long as I spent all this time, I might as well have a bunch of people laugh at me for bothering to do it.

Yeah, just about everything you made had heat counts that made them absolutely impractical to use on a anything, whatever the LOL amounts of damage they could do.  Yes please, gimme a lasers that melts my 'Mech for good!! ::)

Proof that the binary laser really is a dead end.

In most cases, having a single weapon doing insane amounts of damage to the same location in one turn is preferred.  As an example, let us say you have two different Hetzer models from canon, and are firing on the average light mech.

4 IS Medium Lasers at 5 points of damage each will spread the damage across 4 locations; even breaching the armor on the first shot is not guaranteed, unless it is something with no armor, like a Jenner IIC.  You could easily spend the next 3-4 turns alpha striking the same target without killing it.

However, a single AC/20 would completely destroy any location it hits, be it an arm, head, leg, or torso section.  If it hits the head or center torso (or the side torso on an IS XL-engined machine), the mech is toast in one shot.

Thus, it is sometimes well worth the additional heat/weight...not that I support adding non-canon weapons, mind you.

Here's the thing. Clan Tech is only better then IS because for 300 years they didn't have a technological leap backward. The Clans were able to reverse engineer some of the IS weapons specifically the Rotary Autocannons. HOWEVER, their versions weigh more and take more space. The reason being they didn't develop it, theirs is less efficient. Therefor, for the Clans to have other weapons from the IS, it would probably worse, not better.

Weapons such as the Light Gauss Rifles and X-Pulse Lasers were IS attempts at replicating clan tech. A Clan Light Gauss is a regular Clan Gauss Rifle. A Clan X-Pulse Laser is a normal Clan Pulse Laser. So they wouldn't make their own versions, they are inefficient copies of their own tech.

ELRMs, Heavy Gauss, RACs, ect could be reproduced by the clans. But like I said, they would be inferior to the IS equivalents since they are of IS research and development.

Also even though Clan reproduced IS tech is inferior, the BV still gets the Clan tech modifier.. really making them really bad for use in CBT. But if you need a Thor with a Heavy Gauss, thats the only way it could happen.

And created a lot of weapons that even the IS do not have.

What is this "massive" laser class? The lasers go from micro, small, medium & Large, their is no Massive class (not even the clans or WoB have this).
The Focused lasers is in effect the standard "ER" Clan Lasers (with less damage & heat).
Clan X-pulse lasers are a bit on the redundant side of things
and it goes off the deep end from their.

Only massive laser I can think of would be the Bombast Laser it should be classed as the PPC iirc. Its a massive waste of space though :D
