how long have tanks been invincable?
« on: November 24, 2011, 09:14:31 PM »
I've been playing mwll lately, and so many times i see tanks that are all black except for one spot. I continue firing at the black parts, but nothing happens (Beside me dieing  :P)anyone know why? or if its going to be fixed?

Tanks now have a "Hull" component. Keep firing into the damaged side to damage the hull. Destroying the hull is the only way to destroy the tank. Certain parts transfer more damage to the hull - turrets transfer little damage, and rear transfers the most IIRC.

Yeah, hopefully they'll add a nice big "healthbar" on the enemy info thing for the hull soon, but for now you gotta look at the tiny bar labeled with an "H" that's easy to miss and confuse with the other bars

I still aim for the turret because the turret can be hit from any side, and any tanker who isn't an idiot can do a pretty good job of covering up other sections.

This was added two patches ago, and is still in its infancy as a feature. I'm sure we'll see some adjustments to soon™.

One thing you should remember is that the flash for the hull system is quite buggy.

I regularly see it fail to update damage and its under construction still, so you will see alot of tanks look like they're taking barely any damage then suddenly pop.

Before hot topic escalates: Hull/armor will be revised.

That's good to know.

I'd suggest cutting all Hulls by at least 50%. After all, Hull is supposed to represent the internals of the vehicle, which are not normally meant to take a traumatic amount of damage.

Especially on partyvans, those have more hull than armor now. Armor should be increased, hull reduced in proportion.

Hull amount is currently weight * 100 for all tanks exept hovers, so the Partisan has (80tons * 100 =) 8000 hull points.
There is nothing wrong with it IMHO, the Partisan is an assault tank and should be kinda solid, tough it does feel funny that the rest of it seems to made from bubblegum and biscuits, considering how fast it falls apart.

I still hope that one day we get a lighter vehicle for early AA duty and the current Partisan, which is modeled after the ICE powered lvl1 tech Partisan, will be scrapped for the refit fusion powered Partisan. (of course with a 30+ price hike)
Light Weapon-Carriers would be a good choice for early game :D

Other than armor weaker than wet toilet paper?

Well he did say light AA,  :P and that is what the harasser is going to give you. Plus it can avoid A2G fire far better than a party or huit.

The HaRACer is nonviable as a AAA platform until hovercraft movement gets sorted out better. As it is, they're much too jittery to hit an aero with any kind of consistency.

As far as other dedicated AAA platforms go, there aren't all that many out there. The only one I can think of that would fit the profile is the Aesir, but that has the issue of mounting LB-X 2's, being slower than dirt, and being Clan tech (mind you, it's also Jihad-era, so by this point WiE and Sea Fox are both selling them to whoever). Additionally, I don't know if I'd call a 55-ton combat vehicle "light".

If you get killed, try to scream a lot. That way I'll know I'm on my own.

A Note:
There's a difference between constructive feedback and positive feedback. I will attempt the former, but until and unless there is a rule instituted that requires all feedback to be positive, I'm under no obligation to be nice. If you do something that sucks, I will tell you it sucks, and why, and mincing words or stroking egos over it only slows us both down.
