I'd rather see some success with using WINE since VM's will never be as efficient, but in some games WINE actually runs the game faster and better than in normal windows.  Any takers?

Well, seeing as HAARP managed to make the dedicated server run on wine (thread: http://forum.mechlivinglegends.net/index.php/topic,11396.msg174277.html), it seems possible to make the client run as well, albeit some tweaking is most likely needed.

You could run the dedicated server from a Pentium 2 with 256MB of EDO RAM and a 4MB video card, doesn't mean the client will run from it.

You can run it without a video card at all. That's the beauty of Xvfb.

Crysis itself runs on Wine, so does MWLL. However, the last time I checked (which was 2+ years ago) the graphics were glitchy as fuck. I'm sure that there has been some work in the meantime, but I can't guarantee that my old tutorial on WineHQ still applies.

also, 256MB EDO RAM? What kind of alternate universe are you from?

It's not like Pentium2 CPUs had DDR...

SDRAM :D That's the intermediate you're looking for.

If nobody else gets to it first, I'll see what MWLL does in wine as soon as I find a desktop environment I can stand. Good Lord Unity is a mess. Anyone have any thoughts on XFCE?
If you get killed, try to scream a lot. That way I'll know I'm on my own.

A Note:
There's a difference between constructive feedback and positive feedback. I will attempt the former, but until and unless there is a rule instituted that requires all feedback to be positive, I'm under no obligation to be nice. If you do something that sucks, I will tell you it sucks, and why, and mincing words or stroking egos over it only slows us both down.

Xfce is kinda like a successor to Gnome 2, but sleeker. No bloat, fast, does what you need and nothing more, doesn't get in the way, still offers a lot of features and most importantly, does not treat the user like a stupid child :D

I've converted from Ubuntu to Linux Mint 12, I like their take on Gnome 3
