To shed some more light on ToA_Scorched, it's my understanding that it is effectively "proto-Death Valley" in that a lot of the experience shadowkiller gained from designing it and other maps went into the map you all have been enjoying for over a year now.
There's plenty of maps like that in the SVN to be honest, abandoned due to realizing the concept just doesn't work (the fate of a lot of ToA maps) or just scrapped when the author realized he could do something much better starting from the ground up. While I suppose it'd be up to the individual mappers to say how they'd feel about it, it'd at least be unfair to just release those .cry files without their permission.
Something that was posted on another site concerning a similar situation: So let's say you are eating at a fancy restaurant, a nice three-course dinner. After the dinner, would you ask the staff if you also could eat the trash and scraps that were the byproduct of the meal you just ate?
