A question to the developers

Do MW:LL and CE2 make it reasonably possible for a player to spawn piloting a specific asset?

I was only wondering because it seems like if it could, it would allow for some really creative game modes to be created.

Last I heard, mechs had to spawn first and then you'd be able to use them. Any preexisting assets wouldn't function. But, this is just my hazy memory here I'm going off of, so I'm not entirely sure if things have changed since then. I too have longed for a mode where you just spawn in random mechs (without a hanger or repair bays) within a certain class and just battle it out.

Hmmm.... "Historical Scenario" gamemode could be interesting, players would be limited to "what was available at the time".

For historical combat scenarios maybe instead could be like mechassault 2 where the mechs are already sitting on the map waiting for whoever jumps into it first.  I'd imagine a clever community mapper could attempt to implement this, though i'm not sure if you can place a mech on a map as a neutral entity that can be taken over by anyone.

oh wait, i just said mech assault. hold on a second while I beat myself up.

Fixed ;) Though the 'Mechs need not be neutral, just available for anyone on the same team (don't know if this is possible, though).

Sorry for the week+ bump but apparently one of the Vitos maps has this (Canyon Pro). 

It is indeed possible and the time is right for some new and interesting community maps!

If they could also have those "neutral" map placed assets also respawn like the vehicles in Battlefield then it could be quite win

Spawning you in the asset would be more work than its worth (though most things are possible). However, we are defintely toying with other game modes where there are pre spawned assets on the map.

Did you try using one of those?
I entered a neutral Harasser, but it had no weapons. And I could not sell it. It was only good for transportation.

I have tested on my map (ok, actually, just forgot to delete :-[ ). You can spawn any asset with any payload on board. There was some respawn timers, but I havent tried using them.

We can haz both "Decision at Thunder Rift" and 12th Lyran Guards vs. CJF (still in Thunder Rift) as "historical scenarios" plox? ;D

I did.  Also took the sulla and flew it around.  I think it has to do with him simply placing the version without weapons.

My only problem with mechs spawning for use is you ll get Mechwarrior and Kbucy getting into the Blood Asp, while everyone else gets leftthe osiris 'for the lulz'.
