Hephs have Heavy armour?
« on: December 22, 2011, 12:43:08 PM »
So the Heph: has it now got Heavy Armour? I know somebody was stating that the Hephs have had an armour reduction, but vs Class 5 autos it appears roughly x2 tougher than before (which would match a 50% reduction and switch to "Heavy")....poor server hit detection might be at work here (lots of big games lately 8))...so I thought I'd ask if others were having similar results.

Yeah, I have tested RACs in a closed server yesterday, seems like both hovercraft toughened up against light ACs.

Going to do same more testing whenever I find the time.

EDIT:
Quick look into the XMLs reveal no modifier on Heph or Harasser on light kinetics. (don't know if I checked the right place tough, damage types is not my specialty :P Tough I think I did, the same place shows modifiers on the Sulla.)

Ah good, so it wasn't just my imagination  ;D

Hopefully an oversight from when the Hephs armour was adjusted.

Hephs were stupidly hard to kill before the update as well. Are you saying it's even tougher now? Damn..

Only with small ACs, other weapons take just as long as always. (or less time, at least it feels like that to me).

hephs feel a bit too strong, was riding around killing light mechs left and right earlier while absorbing ridiculous amounts of damage for a hovercraft.

If you look at the armour totals in the vehicle armor spreadsheet then you will be able to see that the harasser does have the lower armor values of pretty much anything in the mod currently (comparable to Osiris's), and as with any vehicle, it does take extra damage when shot in the side/rear armour.

It is however, a dangerous asset for starting mechs, considering its speed and firepower, it can be quite tough to get to grips with when used by a skilled opponent. All I can say is, focus them down fast, otherwise their fairly adequate weapon loadouts may end up having quite a surprising effect on your starting mech.

Armour and hull strengths of hovercraft were dropped since last patch, so you will notice for example, that the heph is considerably weaker than it was last version.

Actually, they're a little weaker than they are in CBT (they got 5tons of armour in the Lore, so that's somewhere around 23K points in MWLL, they have ~19k-21K in MWLL)...Kudos to Hiruma Kai for the spreadsheet:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjziAxAWhwVNdFh4WHdYcFdlUnlsX0M0YTFOTHdscnc#gid=0

So they're not over armoured,  it's just that we all suck  :o

I agree that they are the best starter unit in MWLL right now(previous patches it was the RAC Partisan, before then the Owens C, AC20 Osiris, Gauss Uller and so on...it's a beta!).  The supremacy right now is really only due to Hovers resistance to LBX, MGuns and the Class 2&5 cannon....put that back in and the light 'mechs can run to a friendly Partisan or Huit or Siege Engine....balance achieved IMHO.

EDIT: Ninja'd by Maus...*shakes fists* "Damn you Maaauuussss!"

The main reason for the change from light to heavy armour was the fact that hovercraft and tanks are built in the same way in CBT in regards to armour allocation. As much as it does make it more difficult for weapons like light AC's and LBX's to kill hovercraft, these weapons by their very nature are better against hovercraft than most weapons due to their superior fire rates and projectile speeds.

Ofc, balance is not final and subject to change.

hmmmm, IMO some of the outcomes of this change are negative. For example, it took 3 IHG rounds plus some laser fire to kill a harasser in one instance I have encountered. Has anyone any data to verify or challenge?

That HAD to have been a miss with at least one shot. I drove a brand new Hephaestus (way more armor than a Harasser) straight at a Fafnir and took two right in the front armor and exploded instantly, totally obliterated.

No, the shots were good. All hit in the left side armor. Unless the hit boxes have changed size and don't match the model, I don't recall how I could have missed otherwise.

(you could be right though)

No way that happened to Waffle

all gauss is pathetic against hephs (and maybe harassers) due to a massive negative modifier. it takes at least 6 point blank regualr HGauss to kill a Heph (at least it did last time I tried it) and they do more damage that IHG
