So what's up with Flamers?
« on: December 22, 2011, 04:54:07 PM »
Anyone notice that flamer damage and heat seems a bit off? I don't see anything in patch notes regarding adjustments (but that doesn't mean anything). I've been watching and people just get toasted and killed in a few secs with no hope or chance to fight back.

The flamer need the buff . . .

But why do some chassis miss some flamers ? Thor A for example had 2 flamers before 0.5.4 , now it has only one

Why do flamers cool off faster if you let them overheat than if you stop firing before the overheat and let them cool down naturally? It is my understanding that the point of an "overheat" mechanic on a weapon is to reward skilled pilots for knowing how far to push their weapons, and punish pilots who are careless and overheat them. At this rate it is far more efficient to completely overheat your flamers and then ~3-4 seconds later they are fully cooled and ready to go again. Letting them cool down naturally from near overheat takes roughly twice as long.

Well currently a Harasser D can nearly roast a Scat B alive before the Scat kills it... that's quite a buff given last I checked, you could beat a Harasser D in an Uller B (only just).

Flamers only received a 25% decrease to heat generated on self.

We noted during particle optimization tests that you would overheat yourself before you overheated others depending on the asset in question.
Of course heat sinks are relative to this situation, but regardless, you shouldn't have been generating nearly as much heat on yourself as you do on others or it would be pointless to use such a weapon with a detrimental effect on one's self.

There have been no tweaks to heat generated on others, just a decrease on yourself.

I learned that the best way to use the Harasser D is to split the flamers into 2 groups, and just switch back and forth between them as one overheats.  This way you're constantly putting heat on your target and you don't melt yourself.

I agree with this change. It was pretty ridiculous before.

I like the buff to heat but I felt that they did tons of damage to me.
I thought maybe they go a damage boost cause my light got raped.
Maybe reduce the heat applied to 20% to lessen the damage applied because the harasser dominates early.

Not sure they need a change. Anything with DHS still laughs at them. I had two flamer harassers on my Deathstar Puma and I utterly raped them. Anytime I heard the heat warning go off, I tapped the c button and went to half heat.

When i was getting flamed i thought "i don't need to dump coolant until i red line" but in fact i was taking heat damage just below the red line.

Its a problem of people not being observant enough about where there heat really is that's what i think.

The flamers being able to fire longer enhances this as well. it keeps that heat up there just below the red line.

After more use of the beloved Harasser D, I believe that they are perfect.  There's nothing more hilarious than an owens or raven trying to use MASC to get away from you while you keep pace and make them generate even more heat.

Yeah, I almost got legged by a Toast 'n' Go, took damage all over, really quick.  I don't know though, but I think it was the only thing shooting at me.

If the damage didn't change than I am confused.

Its not the heat that makes them scary, its the damage.

Good, the harasser D should be a nasty little guy. Cheap but not so much armor, but a nasty pay load.
