Eject key double tap: No more mistakes
« on: December 25, 2011, 07:40:42 AM »
Introduce ejecting as you have to tap your eject button twice rapidly to activate the system.

No more Whoops cockpit gone.

Why not bind it to something complex like Ctrl-Shift-Z?

I generally like the idea that hammering the eject key should be the way to go.
Feels more desperate!
I am even sure I mentioned this earlier/made a suggestion thread, but search did not come up with anything, probably I never did write it in here.

To be completely honest, the OP makes alot of sense. I'd like for this to be at least an option.
When will full game/demo/beta be released?
We're planning a beta release in the next *very* few weeks. At this time, we can't be more specific. Please stop asking.

No, I will not stop asking.

I've got eject bound to backspace atm....occasionally it makes things interesting if I'm trying to get into a mech at a forward base before an attacking LBX demo kills me.

Double-tap eject gets my support.

I have just remapped it to "G". Works fine. But double tap would be even better!

I quite like this idea. Just binding the eject key to something awkward does make it harder press accidentally, but you want it to be accessible too. Double tapping the eject key is both easy and not likely to happen by accident.

(...I just got a mental image of a Windows confirmation dialog box. "Are you sure you want to eject?")

If you have to tap it more than once, your eject will be delayed, which in dire situations could be the difference between life and death (ejecting vs. dying in your asset). This may not be preferable to everyone.
Just remap the Enter/Eject key to something else. I have it on F1 :).

A refined idea would be to tap the key to prep the ejection system.  Then tap it again when you are ready to flee.

Example:

Press F (Default eject)
3 second countdown to confirm ejection command
If F is tapped within 3 seconds you launch from the mech
If no command is received the time removes itself disabling the 'prepped' eject

And to the ideas of remapping, there is always the accident waiting to happen.  Plus it'd be simpler for the newer players to understand a double tap with a dialog box in the Top-bottom-sides of the screen warning them that tapping again launches you skyward.

I have it on F1 too... and I still think double-tap is like.. uhh.. a no-brainer.

This is an awsome simple idea that solves a really annoying problem. Should of been like this from the beginning!

Looks like you're trying to eject.

But as I said in TS3, I think it's a good idea. Best of both worlds. :)

Why not bind it to something complex like Ctrl-Shift-Z?

crysis wars/mwll doesn't currently support ctrl/shift combination commands so that won't work.  Best bet is to rebind to some key thats somewhere else.  For instance the G key, F1 key, or myself I use the Alt key.
