or learn flash, I hear MWLL needs a flash developer to update the HUD and in-game interfaces.

sucker: i did that already in the yass engine.

it was a combination of predefined 3ds max animations , ogre , and scripting language made by myself.

i think i'll first make an urban mech (cause it's so simple)

by the way: the crysis 3sdk is just an mod creation sdk, too, i mean it creates a dll, that is run in crysis 2  like we have now in crysis wars. i think we'll have the same key problems then have in a new mod, and the smith&thinker guys should have that, too, until they bought the whole engine from crytek, but i think that won't happen.

taltos: i'm premiliary a 3d coder, but if the time comes or i'm assigned to it i'll do that, too.

Although I'm not a Dev and haven't joined the tests lately I would like to make a statement on this.
First of all I would like to thank strook for his efforts. Although I can't tell if it is true or possible what he says it sounds very good to me.
If porting to CE3 is an option over all the team should not lose any more time on it, even though it would hold up the development process for some time.
Why? I think CE3 engine will offer more features and better graphics. More players would be attracted to the mod because of an actual engine that is being pushed in the media, and the key problem would be gone.

As I said I am not a Dev or coder of any kind, but if someone offers his help the team should test his abilities in the usual way when someone applies for the team. If he (strook) seems to be capable of doing what he is stating here: Why not give him a try? If his first results look promising one can think again about drawing more manpower from the "normal" team to the CE3 port.

Well that was just my 2 cents, don't get mad at me :)

Beyond the large technical hurdles involved in such a switch there are other non-technical considerations that weigh heavily over things.

The non-technical, internal considerations are in many ways the greater hurdle.  Strook if you want to have a conversation in private about this I can go into it a little but it's not a topic for public discussion.

I'm not sure if you're considered this or not but Piranha is going after Mektek for their recent release of an Unreal Engine Mechwarrior mod, I assume because it has potential to compete in the general market.  If you guys upgraded to CE3 you may find yourself in a similar legal battle with them as you'd be capable of directly competing with MWO.

MW:LL does not compete with MWO; rather MWO, once released, will have to compete with MW:LL. The MWO can count a paid marketing department in its advantage, but that doesn't go as far as an established playerbase and a long-running public beta phase.

With that said, engine switches don't seem to me like the most likely initiators of legal s***slinging. Visual similarities are more likely, those are easy to show and explain to judges.

On a side note:
Strook, there is an interesting CryEngine3 mod out there called Traction Wars. They started as a CryEngine2 mod, but now switched to CE3 as it is free to play. Maybe you can gather experience while helping them.
Maybe you can get some of them to help us in return to port this awesome sauce to CE3.

Unfortunately that's balls eRk' the customer and playerbase for MWLL is horrifically low right now, I don't see how it's even a consideration on competition to be honest.  I'm not dissing the game and the effort gone into it ... but the population has waned so much that I can find more people playing a quakeworld (euro population is still around the 500-750 mark) than I can MWLL take that as you will.

i think the fact that CE2 is still available for purchase is more than enough reason to stay with Crysis 1 for MWLL. all other thoughts of mine have allready been stated by teh devs.

Sucker:  :o is this idea really from clear mind? moving to another mod to get "experience" how they coded their mod? and then move backwards to this mod to start all over? i think the day has only 24 hours? am i right?

moving to ce3 would be only fitting the old code into the new engine. and the new engine is compatible to the older one.

the only thing i need is some guys who convert some assets to the new engine. i also have some mappers and some answers from other devs about that thing.

but besides this there would be also coding on a new code of the old engine in parallel.

as i know from teamworking in other projects, there is always some time after i sent in my code. in this time i could work on an implementation of ce3 myself.

and if it's any good and there are some assets and maps, it would be recognized by the lead devs as well i hope.

First off, Strook, you really have no idea what you're talking about.
There's much more to it than you can possibly grasp, or allowed to know about.

Second, we have no current or future plans to ever move to CryEngine 3.
This is merely a pipe-dream of an over-excited applicant and I apologize to all those who'd like to see it happen.

Please cease these discussions, as I am officially stating right here that there will never be a CE3 release of MWLL even if it could be done with two button clicks. All future development will happen solely on the CryEngine 2 and that is final.
