Just stop comparing turn-random-based CBT to MWLL and you will see, that range of pulse lasers is fine.

Check the pulse-laser thread for my opinion on that.

You mean the pulse laser thread where everyone told you that CLPL are very effective weapons and that their 700 range is nothing to sneeze at?

THAT pulse laser thread?

They're effective.

But not more than a CERPPC. And only barely more than a CERLBL.

Are... are CLPL's SUPPOSED to be more effective than a CERPPC?

I'll say it more directly this time.

C/ER/PPCs are horribad against tanks, air, vtols, and only good against BA on the ground.

Tanks are shaped differently than mechs, their hitboxes are much more separated and wide, with more armor per section due to less areas to cover.

Add to this that you can only really damage the hull after you burn through a single side with splash damage never really taking much effect due to the shape, nor helping due to the nature of the system, and LPL are far better at taking them out. The long reload time of PPCs doesn't help either as tanks can simply turn their sides and if you're going through the turret its going to take even longer.

Constant damage to a single location is the key to scaring off and destroying tanks, CERPPCs are horrible at this.

More than a bit of hyperbole here. PPCs are not bad against tanks. If you're packing PPCs, aim for a spot that you can hit every time. Either chase the damage section when the tanker tries to turn it away, or just hit the turret.

PPCs are just bad at small fast moving objects (Aero, light mechs, hovercraft) due to the travel time more than any kind of splash damage against hitbox issues. Not to mention PPCs are usually the first to stop registering when the server starts to lag.

I think his point is that; one of the PPC's biggest strengths over other weapons is its splash damage.  Unless you're shooting for corners, you're only going to be damaging one facing, completely negating the fact that you have splash.  It's not what I would call "horribad", but it's a complete waste of the weapon's main advantage.

I am pretty sure PPCs do reduced damage to aerial assets, too, Eldragon.

If Hiruma Kai's weapon stats are correct,  PPCs do 20% MORE damage to aero. But even then PPCs are terrible AA guns because of the massive deflection shot required.

If I read the XMLs correctly all energy based weapons (that includes PPCs) deal 125% damage to aeros (so 25% extra) and 115% to VTOLs.

I still would not bring the PPCs out for AA duty tough, worst weapon for that, next to the flamer  :P

flamers being the worst AA makes it all the better when you take one down with them.

admittedly it was a shiva on the ground but still :p
