areo afterburner idea
« on: December 28, 2011, 05:00:23 PM »
So currently it is quite easy to suicide, robing the AA of a kill in an areo with no downside to you (doesn't count as a suicide) just by holding down your afterburner and blowing up your plane. I know this would be low on the list of priorities, but would it be possible to make overheating in areos only damage your engines? This way if you hit the afterburner to escape and overheat you just burn out your engines making you a sitting duck. It would be a bit fairer I think.

Uh, is this really a problem? If you suicide you not only get 1 extra death but also 1 less kill... This is enough punishment imo.

I usually jump out of a plane if I want to survive (or "rob" the AA of a kill)... Good AA pilots will still kill me though.

Suicides are impossible to tell if intentional or not, any game could suffer from the issue. In this game however you suffer the penalty of possible demotion, so its certainly not in the Aero's favor to suicide on purpose just to prevent giving the kill to the opponent.

Suicide due to overheat will still be a suicide to him. He will loose score and money.

The real problem is that air duels suck. Too easy to spin forever (2 good pilots can do it easily), too easy to ram in the last effort, if you are loosing, too easy to Shiva E (devs don't care about this flying oneshoter).

By the way, is there a slight change in damage distribution for aero? I got my engines destroyed once!  :o

If only a plane without a wing was as screwed as a mech without a leg....

It doesn't count as a suicide though, can still transfer money afterwards, only counts as a death.

I think the only time I've ever afterburned so far that I blew up my already damaged plane, it counted as a suicide against me.  I've seen this happen by accident to a couple other pilots, and intentionally?  Never.

What you may be mistaking, is sometimes the game messes up when you kill an ASF, and it only counts as a death for them.  That's happened plenty of times to me, where it doesn't count as a suicide, and the AA guy doesn't get the kill, however it was not caused by anything intentional on my end.

I can sit on a runway, afterburner up, die transfer my cash and do it again and again with only deaths counting against me. It might not be exploited now, but it is a potential exploit.

Keep in mind that this is a BETA so anything is possible with that.....I personally would love to see the death spiral when a wing is lost!

A potential exploit for what?  Transfer 5k per death?

This bugs me, and I'll tell you why.

1. You've introduced a possible exploit to the entire forum community, so if this can actually be exploitable, people know about something that previously nobody had even heard of, including myself, and I fly ASF...a lot.
2. If this were an exploit, it wouldn't be very advantageous to perform anyway, due to the 5k transfer limit.
3. For servers with no transfer limit, wouldn't it be easier to just transfer your cash and...IDK, have a teammate kill you?  Why spend money on an asset if your goal is c-bill exploitation?
4. You're acting as if this is some huge issue, and blowing it way out of proportion.  FYI I've been playing since 0.1, and have never seen anybody do this intentionally as an exploit.
5. The devs need to work on finishing the game, not taking dedicated time out of the mod to fix an occasional bug that nobody in their right mind would exploit anyway, and has had next to zero impact on gameplay, save for the occasional AA guy getting robbed of a kill.

I'd much rather see the devs working on the ASF landing bug.

sounds to me like a bug report if killing yourself in aerospace isn't counting as suicide proper

Its only heat death in areos that doesn't count as a proper suicide. If thats the bug then if thats fixed this whole thing goes away.

What whole thing?  The non-existent, counter-productive exploit?  Your forum posts making this seem like an end of the world issue?

Because I've like, died from heat once, in an aero.

How about you go to the bug report section like a good little beta tester, and make an official post there?  Don't forget to try it out yourself, so you have a repro number to submit.

A little bit more productive than making a forum post explaining how YOU think this bug that nobody's even recalled seeing before is some end of the world game breaking mechanic.

You're basically suggesting an additional nerf to ASF to counter a rare bug that in your own speculation, could be an exploit.  Have you even flown air?  Have you tried to do this very thing yourself?

Calm down, dude. He's not blowing it out of proportion at all, he's just discussing a bug within the game.

I'd say you should definitely report it under the bug report section, but don't expect the devs to act on it for a while. I'm not ragging on them, but they really do have more important things to work on.
