Future of CE2
« on: February 22, 2008, 02:30:26 AM »
I was wondering where the MW:LL devs see the engine going over the next or so. What new features do you guys expect to see added over time? Will there be added features for deformation or the adoption of the Agiea SDK? What about DX10.1? 3rd parties will also be adding their own features for their tittles, where do you all think they will take?

How will moding for Cryengine2 be different in a year from now?

All this dx 10 dx 10.1 is a bunch of bullshit hype trash that can be done in dx 9. Shouldn't be different at all since you use the sdk to put stuff ingame the same way each time.

How i play this is it just for making it or playing and making it

As for modding for the CE2, it'll be much friendlier than it is now. Looking on ModDB there's only a couple of Crysis mods because, while people are extending the game by adding behaviors, scripts, custom nodes, and so on, there's very few that currently have the resources needed to do a total conversion. We're lucky in being chosen as one of the few teams to get the preSDK but despite that, there's quite a bit of groundwork being laid down at the moment that will be very useful in the future. Patch 1.2 is comming up which is primarily to add support for modding. The SDK is comming soon as well. People are adding features with scripts and behaviors constantly both on our team and others, and all this work is laying a solid foundation for future work on the game. Many of the troubles we've been having are based on nothing more than the fact that nobody has ever done this kind of stuff before. There won't ever be a "Make Mod Now" button, as Criminal keeps reminding us, but it will get easier as more is figured out by the modding community.
