How much do heatsinks cost?
« on: December 29, 2011, 05:46:28 PM »
The other day I was wondering what damaged Heatsinks costs to repair?
Or how much heatsinks weigh in, in the price calculation for each asset.
Do DHS cost the same as single ones?

Heat sinks cost 500 C-Bills each, and DHS simply count as 2 HS.

Regarding repair costs, the only information I have is about armour. For Mech armour it's repairCost = "0.5" repairTimeMultiplier = "4.5".
No idea about broken heat sinks, disabled weapons, coolant refills, or even if they cost anything to fix. Easy enough to check for coolant, though.

Coolant costs 1k and is an instant refill. But usually heatsinks only are damaged when the rest of the mech is damaged, too. At least damaged by the overheating.

IIRC, you can't repair damaged heatsinks... that's permanent.
When will full game/demo/beta be released?
We're planning a beta release in the next *very* few weeks. At this time, we can't be more specific. Please stop asking.

No, I will not stop asking.

IIRC, you can repair damaged heatsinks. You can't repair destroyed heatsinks.

Damaged heatsinks are quite costly, Harasser D proves this. But it is really hard to say the exact price. Only devs know...

Is there a way to see when your heatsinks are damaged other than poor cooling performance?

In the NGNG podcast #9 KingLeer gave us some new future heatsink info. They'll be upping the price of DHS above twice that of regular HS to account for how much better they are, and every asset will have a custom new HUD (I'd imagine a new heatsink damage indicator will be given to us then).

I would hazard a guess that the heatsink damage gets repaired at the same price as regular mech armor (it costs half as much as the base value to repair any damage, and HS cost 500 each). So to repair a damaged heatsink it would be %damage*500*.5 = repair cost, though there isn't a way to confirm if that's true other than a dev enlightening us. Also remember that you have and additional 10 unlisted DHS in every mech engine as well, which is where things get costly.

Incorrect, 10 single heat sinks even for Clan 'Mechs.

are you sure. I think I heard somewhere, that clans/IS have DHS in their XL engines.
..., but this is battletech, and sense is often not made.

I'm pretty sure he's right. All assets - Clan or IS, have 10 free single heatsinks with the engine. That's most of why the Mad Dog prime is so terrible, it's running with half the heat capacity it has in CBT (Where it was already fairly hot) without any reduction in its armament.

It doesn't help that large pulsers still dump truly massive amounts of waste heat in this game. You now have all the ingredients for disaster.

Regardless of whether the engine heatsinks are single or double, having to repair half the cost of all ten of them is still a lot of cbills, so don't take too much heatsink damage.

Who thought that was a good idea? Is it really that hard to give DHS assest DHS's and SHS assets SHS's?
