New Pulse lasers...
« on: December 30, 2011, 01:19:41 AM »
What's your opinion on them?

IMO they feel strange now. The shorter bursts make them easier to hit with, but make them feel less like a pulse laser, specially becuase they don't refire if you keep your mouse pressed. I actually liked their longer "offload" times (just a personal opinion). And the new damage... It's a nice addition, makes them a bit more viable, but the heat is still murderous. Unless you have millions of heatsinks then will burn through your coolant in no time. Mad dog prime is still useless. Just PLEASE hive him 1 more DHS. I think it would make him much more viable! Cougar prime well, a bit more usefull but heat kills it eventually. Kit fox with 4 CMPL has always been an early heavy hitter and it hasn't changed much. Overall the new change seems to be a step in the right direction, I kinda like it, but I think they still need a bit of work, specially in the heat department.

they are better. definitely improved the summoner A. it's LPL now has a much shorter engagement window, and synergizes better with the rest of the weapons.

The Pulse Lasers' damage and heat curve feel right now :).

But I also think, that only 3 pulses do not feel quite right. How many pulses were it before, 5?

I think it's definitely a step in the right direction. I used to never run out of coolant, now I'm having to actually manage my heat a bit more than just hitting the coolant button every once in awhile, and I like that a lot. It finally makes me have to stagger fire and such.

I agree that 3 pulses doesn't feel right. Maybe variable pulses? Similar to switching ammo types in Crysis, switching from 3 to 5 pulses at will?

I can think of situations where each would be better. 5 pulses would work better for slower targets that I want to do more damage to, 3 are better for light mechs/BA.

4 pulses fired in the same time that 3 pulses are fired now and do as much damage as the 3 pulses fired now "pewpewpewpew" 8)

feels a bit more "pulsey" IMO

We can toy with an extra pulse or two in the same engagement window, but there are limits based on frame rate and what you will reliably see. Also the point is to reflect the improved accuracy they get from CBT standards, and I think the new style fits that well.

Indeed. How about the fact that they don't refire if you keep your mouse pressed. Is that intentional or a bug?

I believe that you guys just haven't grown accustomed to the lower pulses yet. just wait and play and it will grow on you.

I personally love the new pulse lasers. they're very effective now, and feel different in their use than the beams.

I've been having a lot of success in the Novacat B with those. I picked it at first in a TC game because it can maintain 90 km/h with MASC and it doesn't relies on ammo. Damage wise it feels great, and heat isn't a big problem if you don't fire all 4 at the same time. Still has its weakness, the arms, but its nothing we didn't already knew.
