Rear view mirrior/back cameras
« on: December 31, 2011, 07:21:25 AM »
So today i was reversing and i kept hitting deadly terrain such as chain link fences. If i had a rear view mirror i could have screamed in rage as i backed into the chain link fence.

It would also help when your in passive and those mechs with limited cockpits, being able to see that BA trying to sneak up behind you before he gets underfoot or watching that angry assault storm out of the bushes.

Not going to happen.
Aside from the technical difficulties (wherever your camera faces, your weapons fire) we do not feel any third person or alternate camera view is positive to gameplay.

Not even a little box on your hud with a shrunken view of whats behind you ala MW4? I dont want 3rd person view hell i think it would be awesome to actually have it as a part of the ingame hud adds to the realism. Just a mirror or monitor that shows whats behind you.

Hahaha does crysis engine even support windows within windows? would fix all the possible problems with the cockpit and add to the immersion value.

Walking around passive has its weaknesses.

It does, but even a 5x5 pixel window means a second camera and causes the engine to render a full view for that.
So it basically cuts you performance in half...

Seems pretty needless to have an entire alarm system purely for when there are objects behind you.

once you've played the game for a while you start learning where things are a bit better, like being in a car with bad blind spots

It's too bad the cockpits in BT didn't have clear backs, because then you could simply use a true mirror over a portion of the screen and it would still be rendering the same amount, while alleviating the weapon firing direction problem. Darn crysis engine...

Personally, I think ASF and VTOLs need something like this much more. Or possibly a 'free look' cam. All the ASF have these nice bubble-canopy windows, but we don't use them..  :-\

Free look is needed within the aeros, I agree, but within the mechs, it wouldn't make a difference.

I do have to admit that I've tried to do the FSX style free look by holding down space on a number of occasions.  It'd be really cool if the developers could implement something like that for aerospace at least.
