Improving FPS
« on: January 02, 2012, 02:14:31 AM »
I have a fairly decent computer. A bit outdated by today's standards, but I can run Modern Warfare 3 on High just fine.

Most maps with everything on Low in MW:LL I run about 20 FPS, in action sometimes as low as 5-8 FPS.

Any tips on improving ? I'm going to try forcing DirectX 9 to see if that helps.

You can also use CCC to improve your framerate.

Its a custom config that tweaks some of the graphic options in Crisis and makes it look prettier while delivering better FPS (at least for me and most other people ;D)

if you're going to upgrade only for MWLL, whatever you do, DO NOT BUY A GPU UNLESS YOURS IS REALLY, REALLY OLD

MWLL rapes CPU, even more because it seems to use only one core, and maybe 2 max if you tell it to. Many people here upgraded GPUs instead of CPUs, and even thought we saw great improvements in other games, MWLL was still stuck at the 20-5 FPS you're having issues with

I have a dual core CPU, is there a way to tell it to use both if it isn't already?

I think you just use an autoexec, but don't ask me about it

half of the people on this forum can tell you that me and computers do not understand each other or get along >_>

There's your problem. If you're running a dual core,

SHUT.
DOWN.
EVERYTHING.

before you start MWLL. No music, no teamspeak. Your best (and possibly only) option other than launch preparation is overclocking your CPU's clock speed to 3.0 GHz or higher.
If you want to know if its using both cores (and how much), just CTRL+ALT+DEL (task manager) and go to "Performance" while MWLL is running. If it's using both cores, you should see a lot of activity on both cores.
When will full game/demo/beta be released?
We're planning a beta release in the next *very* few weeks. At this time, we can't be more specific. Please stop asking.

No, I will not stop asking.

dual core is fine, just make sure you put your physics core to 1 instead of 0 so it will put it on a separate core.  Of course you also need to have around a 3.0Ghz processor to get the most out of it.

there's really no comparing this engine to Modern Warfare 3, that engine is actually pretty old and probably can't render multiplayer levels on the scale you see here

How does one go about changing that? :)

That makes sense, I think they've used the same engine since COD4

I believe it's been the same "engine" since cod 2, which is based on the quake 3 engine.

Crysis was designed on dual cores; it's not really a problem, per se. However, it completely shuts down your ability to multi-task while playing MWLL.

when you install CCC it prompts you and the default is 0 (meaning same core as the rest of the game).  Instead you should put in 1 so it goes to a separate core

Dual core not enough core?

I struggled to do everything with my Core2Duo E8400 for the last 4 years.
From tweaking every setting in my autoconfig file to upgrading my graphics card from a GTX260 Overclocked to a Radeon HD 6950.

My CPU always ran at 100% and my GTX260 ran at about 70% and my Radeon ran at 40%...

So I bought a new computer (i5-2500k) and used the old HD6950.  Lo and behold, my GPU usage was 70% and my CPU usage was also around 70-80%.
