I hate to nitpick
« on: January 06, 2012, 01:35:16 PM »
but, at least in CBT, the Cougar D is underweight (by 2 tons, if running on the free-ammo MWLL rule, 6 TONS)-and it's armament reflects this.

If you agree with me on that CBT =/= MWLL, then please consider this a rant as to the main problem with the Cougar D not being its armament, but its armor.
So, howabout we dump those two extra tons into armor?

...

Oh wait. One half-ton and the chassis is already maxed out on armor. Nevermind; let's upgrade the DSSRM4's to DSSRM6's. That would be awesome, right? RIGHT?
When will full game/demo/beta be released?
We're planning a beta release in the next *very* few weeks. At this time, we can't be more specific. Please stop asking.

No, I will not stop asking.

What is CBT? This is MWLL. The MWLL-developers make the rules*. You don't.

*And good ones they make. I played MW2:Mercs and MW3 over the last two weeks and I came to realize that every game before MWLL was complete crap in terms of balance**. That's what you get when implementing a ruleset without thinking about the actual game.

**I hope the future 'Mechlab won't break MWLL like all the other games*** are broken.

I can't speak for the Cougar D, but I can say that if your not satisfied with that variant, try giving the Prime another shot. The changes to LRM's and Pulse lasers have made it a very competitive platform for <60k.

Not every variant in MWLL maxes out the available tons of the asset.

Don't worry, I've used the Prime plenty. It's an awesome 'Mech-700m is a really strange range for how the maps are currently set up now, though. I suppose I just don't play it right.

Not every variant in MWLL maxes out the available tons of the asset.

Perhaps their build rules dictate that they do? Nevertheless, not using the maximum tonnage of an asset should be against the build rules. If it's >.99 tons below the chassis' top weight, then it shouldn't be allowed.
Pardon me if the reasoning behind that isn't obvious, but it's all pretty long and drawn out if I were to try and explain it. You don't want Atlases running around with 2 SBLs, 2 MBLs, 2 SRM2s and a Large Laser, do you?

Well Leer said he was scanning the variants for such things for the last few weeks now, so I guess if it really is undertonned by their rules he has most likely already noticed that :P

I don't know what our build rules say, I only know so much certain weapons have a different wheight than in CBT.
One I know of is the MBL.
Also, instead of a criticals we use a podsystem, as has been mentioned about a bazillion times before! :P
This does apply to all weapons, which means thath the Cougar might not have enough space to carry the big missilelaunchers, like lrm20, atm12 or CDSSRM6 in it's sidetorso, and the biggest one it can fit is the CDSSRM4.

Most importantly tho, it has also been stated numerous times that KingLeer went, or is going over all, I repeat ALL the variants in the build which of course include the Cougar D, if he finds that variant to be underweight by our buildrules, something is going to be done about it, within our buildrules fo course. At the very least you're going to get two additional tonns of ammo.
If at first you don't succeed try again, and if you don't try again, you'll be hit in the face with a shovel!

Actually... put MASC on it. That'd make it totally gravy.

Or MASC and two free tons, if weapons with ammo really do get free ammo.

I've been personally doing a very thorough pass on EVERY single variant of all vehicles in MWLL for the past 2 weeks to bring everything inline with a unified build rules set.  There are going to be a number of changes that come out of this process but it is important as it will set us up for compliance with upcoming features.

Patience.

Well, he's going them over, so now I suppose we have room to make suggestions on what to do with this potentially underweight mech...

you kidding?

sure, it has some good weapons (I'd still say Uller C can put more damage on target), but it's a massive target, falls apart if you sneeze at it and can't outrun arrow 4s  and other missiles (big, BIG disadvantage)
it's main issue is it's speed (or lack of) it can't get into it's fighting range without taking massive damage, it can't stay behind the enemy or at least move fast enough to be a harder target at that range, and like I already said, it can't dodge guided missiles at all

some extra armor would be good, but the first upgrade I would apply to it would definitely be MASC

you kidding?

nope ^^
The Cougar D is a BEAST. With 2-3 good Alphas every light mech is shreddered. And if you chainfire the SSRMs, you nearly have the same trolling effect as the Maddog B . . . ; D

Edit :  heatsinks, extra armor or ammo would be great ; D

I agree with Tripod here, armor would be nice but MASC would be far better then anything else.
