the idea is to know when to brawl and when not to.
appropriate time to brawl? when you have cover from teammates, when you are attacking stragglers that get to close to your guys, or stray too far from their own group, when taking an outpost, when some other brawlers are trying to flank your team, when you've got their long range support dead to rights, or when you are part of a group of brawlers.
Alone the best you offer is a distraction because you will be defeated in detail by combined fire and their team will take little more than superficial damage.
And even then, if you are going to give a distraction, at least wait for your own team to be in position to make use of it.
Maps like outpost and sandblasted and palisades are not ideal maps for brawling. Those are maps that cater to long firing lines and long range combat.
If you want lots and lots of brawling, play more TC
I have to disagree with Sandblasted not being a good brawling map, it is one of the best, especially since all the campers make it easy in their long range boats. Plus there isn't a lot of stuff to run into out in the dunes and the dunes are great for avoiding fire and getting in range.

...quite possible and very enjoyable to roll through half the enemy team with a pair of brawlers and a set of balls...
I can't find one other player with balls. That's part of the problem.
I have three, and they are huge and made of brass!!

Tag along sometime, but it really does take about 3 'Mechs to make a decent brawling force, unless there are only like ten folks on the server.
