3D scan companys
« on: January 07, 2012, 03:20:11 PM »
Didi you ever think about scanning the mechminiatures by a 3D scanner ?

this would simplify things...

what about the costs?

and how could we afford them?

besides the MWLL team does not have any money to pay for scans, I think they would not even be allowed to due to licensing issues.
Even without that problem I doubt the miniatures would provide enough detail for a proper 3D model of a mech that could be rigged.

Even the models used in MW4 had 1000-1500 polygons.  It is unlikely that sufficient resolution could be obtained from the miniatures.

The Iron Wind / Ral Partha are simply too poorly detailed to gather any useful proportions from them. Additionally, most of them are warped in any kind of way. Not to mention the uneven and rough surface caused by the molding process when casting tin.

well.. i don't really believe it.. maybe we could get it done by a firm which does it for us.

remember the main complexity of an asset comes from its texture. so if it would cost only 100 bucks for a complete scan and modifying afterwards to get it propper for one model, i would do it.

but better i got a firm at hand that could maybe do it for a very cheap price, not by scanning, but by modeling.

lets see.. i think i'll at first the warhawk implemented...

Are you talking about the people who take money from the state? The ones which have to be (sort of) forced to work even a little bit, just so they get a regular working day? Jeah slavery, getting their rent paid by the state. Food stamps if needed. They even get their TV paid.
And they get more than 300€ (+ money for children....) per month.
Jeah, working for an euro per hour is not acceptable under these circumstances.

Sorry for the vent, but people complaining about the German social care system have either no idea, or are extremely ungratefull.

What they didn't tell you is the resolution and polygon count of a 3D texture generated from scanning a 2D picture is going to be terrible.

i had just a talk with ingrater, and he said that, too.

and he said, that this project has no need of that, cause there are already enough artists on it.
