Activity question
« on: January 09, 2012, 06:40:03 PM »
Hello after seeing this rather awesome mod on youtube i had to try it (big MW junkie back to the 386xs days)
After a gigantic hassle with Steam giving me a faulty cd key fortunately EA gave me a new one and fixed it.

I had to wonder, anytime i refresh gamespy i see maybe 3 servers with people on it, usually just 2 full ones.
Are there servers that are off gamespy or did i get some setting wrong or are really this few people playing this mod?

Im having a lot of fun playing it but just wanted to be informed before i advise my friends to purchase Crysis Warhead.

There are about 2 to 4 servers full of people at all times.
After a bigger patch they usually grow in number for several weeks before dropping to the usual numbers.

I don't see why this should be a problem, its not like I've ever started the game and not found any populated servers. And its surely not going to die out anytime soon.

Its not a complaint, just was hoping for a bigger community.
Has it always been like this or has the community been on a incline or decline?

It has been like this for a very long time. Not that uncommon for mods sadly. This game also has a steep learning curve.

If you got friends to hook up, do so. It's the only way the community can grow. And the game is really awesome, just way too unknown.

We've always averaged about this many players, so id say we are holding steady quite well for a old mod.

New idea- would I be able to use an external hard drive to add RAM and/or improve gigahertz?

In fact, you will usually find 1-2 or even more servers to play on. Enough number to have some fun, but... The more - the better.

There are always 1-2 full servers running, which means there's always at least one full game to join.

We have held these numbers steadily for years, inclining with patch releases, and steadying to 1-4 servers regularly. The only way for more people to play is to invite more people to play. Until then, we have a very reliable and stable community.

It may be small, but it's consistent.

The two main factors that influence the size of the community as I see it is the Crysis Wars Paywall and the learning curve. It's hard for us to retain anyone who doesn't have an attention span beyond CoD and Battlefield due to the learning it takes to play competently.

I think lately i've been seeing the 2-4 well populated servers, but I remember there was a lull several months to a year ago where it was only 1 at peak times... it maybe have just been around the time when it was still on vanilla Crysis.  I don't have the hard data but I think its trending up slowly with each new release so long as we don't take too long between content and fix releases.  Also having more community maps to choose from may have been helping longevity too.

actually we've seen a small increase that surprised me over the weekend

There was a point where we almost hit 100 players!  We generally don't see those type of numbers unless it was release time.

yeah, it's always been like this.

it's a combination of: completely unknown mod+ having to buy a game from EA+already insular mechwarrior community that normalfags aren't a part of+high skill curve+extremely good graphics lead to technology lockout

It's been just about this high since the Crysis Wars release. It was downright scary before that, though!
When will full game/demo/beta be released?
We're planning a beta release in the next *very* few weeks. At this time, we can't be more specific. Please stop asking.

No, I will not stop asking.

Hey hey HEY! I like battlefield. >:|

In fact, ages ago on the old site before the mod was released, the thing that really got me excited and drew me into the community was when Terrain control was described in Battlefield terms.  :D

The only thing that has me baffled is when battletech/mechwarrior diehards get here and say "OMG I DIDN'T KNOW THIS EXISTED TILL TODAY!!!!!"
Makes me sad that word gets out so slowly.

Don't get me wrong. I enjoy Battlefield as well, but the simplicity of it is well below that of our game.
