By the way, yesterday I had actually made a lot of air kills. Once, destroyed engines of Shiva. I was using LBX SparrowHawk, Sulla D, Sulla A. So, it is possible to kill enemy in air duel. But it requires right tool for the job.

If you simply slow down to between 100-150 kph, stay under 50 meters above the runway and then wait 3 (more or less, 3 is just to be safe) seconds while staying in both of those height and speed "windows", you should have the landing gear fully down by the time you hit the ground

On some maps it's even easier as the sun hits your plane in a way so that you can actually see the shadow of your plane in front of you on the runway. Then you just wait until the shadow of the gear stops going down before landing

On Death Valley, Mirage and Kagoshima this isn't really an option, as the runways are higher up than the terrain leading up to it and the runways themselves are too short for a few seconds of 100kph flight.
You're just too high up to trigger the gear coming down...
Solution=manual gears ;)

really, much of the weapons mounted on aeros should be "air only versions" of existing weapons.  BT rules already treat the exact same weapons very differently when mounted on aircraft, and and would make for better fine tuned balance.

you could then make the distinction between air weapon classes meant to engage enemy air units and those meant to be used against ground targets

Hey, bumping this thread because I think there's something of merit in the OP.

When engaging ground threats, the vast majority of the fire is going to hit the belly of the aircraft, right?

In an air engagement, and I'm basing this off of REAL engagements because I don't dogfight in MWLL, but the majority of dogfighting kills occur against the TOP of an aircraft (typically in turns).

So why not just make the TOP of all ASFs extra-vulnerable, or make most of it 'engine' hitbox?

I do agree though that the hitboxes should be fixed. It seems like 90% of the fapping model is 'Body' no matter where you hit it.

It can be obnoxious trying to sneak shots past their deflector screens...errrr....I mean wings.

So anyone actually seen the cockpit, wing or engine get blown up?, You're right it always seems to be the body, no matter where you shoot. You'll usually see an ASF with a red body section and superficial damage to everything else.

I've seen wingless planes Immelman back to base and engineless planes serenely gliding into the sunset despite the fact that the pilot has long since abandoned his plane.

Now a number of engineless Shivas has increased...

You will never see wingless ASF because wings transfer damage to body at low armour and when wing it destroyed, body is nearly always destroyed too. But even that nearly never happens.  Tails are transfering damage to body or work as invulnerability zone. No cockpit zone for ASF.

/Conclusion: ASF damage system cries for love!
