IS laser buff

The current setup of the lasers seems to be lopsided in clan favor with the massive range and damage with only an inconvenient heat buildup that is countered with a coolant tap.  While canonically 'accurate' I think the IS laser should have a slight edge rather then just heat.

A simple solution would be to decrease the discharge time of all ER and standard beam laser variants.  Here is a hypothetical  example to clarify:

Laser A: Fires for 1 second dealing 500 points of damage, a cool down of 3 seconds, and 100 points of heat per shot
^ This represents the current laser

Laser B: Fires for .5 seconds   dealing 500 points of damage with the same cool down of 3 seconds and heat.
^ This would be the revised laser

The benefit here is that it would allow the pilot to be less effected by cockpit shake and also attempt to maximize damage spread.   While still holding to the cannon that the Clan allows for longer range and higher total damage.

Coolant is getting a rework. Lets wait for that before messing with the lasers more.

Yeah as it is the lasers are balanced since they need that tap of coolant so with it gone then everyone is good. I'd love to see massive price differences between the lasers though.

Even regarding heat-coolant changes, it'd still be a more interesting to signify the difference in IS tech v Clan tech.  As it stand most of the IS lasers are garbage because their range/damage put them at such a poor state to perform vs clan lasers.   These price points I keep seeing are mostly moot points, because a player who wants a certain unit will grind to get that unit or simply beg for cash from teammates so price so far has little impact on laser performance.

Clan can have some Peeeeeewww power lasers

IS holds the PEW laser.

Adding a dynamic to how the beams compare would be an awesome change.

Ever try the Uziel C? Bushy C? Owens C? X-Pulse Lasers? Inner Sphere lasers are still plenty effective. They just aren't OMG 900M SNIPER effective, and they are CERTAINLY much, much, MUCH cheaper than Clan lasers. A Shadow Cat with 2x ERLBLs, 2xERMBLs and a NARC costs about 50% more than any Uziel, which is 5 tons heavier.

Now that the clanners got their heavy lasers and pulse lasers up to par, they would rather remain king of the hill :D  I actually find the inner sphere lbl quite effective, and the mbl is good if you mount enough of them, a' la Owens. 

All of the lasers will probably change once a coolant rework is complete, so we will just have to wait. Besides I'd rather have an effective ac10.

Take out the coolant period, and lasers get balanced real quick. Though to do this, some of the clan primes will need more HS to compensate.

Price is huge esp when mechlab gets implemented, for the same price IS will be able to mount more weapons on a bigger chassis while having a better choice compared to CL.

I don't think coolant is the problem, the problem is how coolant works with double heatsinks.  It is literally a tap of the coolant with any Clan 'Mech, but with IS you have to hold down C for a bit to get any substantial heat drop.  I think it is sort of janky that Clan weapons create more heat, but due to how heat works they really don't have to worry about it, most Clan crap doesn't even really need coolant to be effective, their heatsinks are just that damned good.

I don't think IS lasers need a buff really either, but they are subpar with how heat works.

Some pretty strong (and obvious) IS bias coming through here. Plenty of Clan 'Mechs with awful heat management.


Thief gameplay + Doom3 engine = The Dark Mod
