LBX am i doing it wrong?
« on: January 14, 2012, 08:15:37 AM »
Kk, here is the story. It seems that every time i use a LBX type cannon that is not mounted in an ORO tank, it absolutely under performs ridiculously.
bead target, loose at 100m, and minimal/sandblast type damage is dealt, while i get pwnd because of huge reload time/lack of automatic fire.

is there some secret to them? because if i had the choice, i would pick AC10 whammy over LBX10 whammy any day, or AC over LBX in general (save on ORO).

note to players i have been very inactive since 5.3 came out, maybe 1.5 games total. 5.2 however, i was very active and very annoyed with the LBX.

so, what is everyone else's opinion on this?

(note: on the oro tank, one alpha strike with the double LBX variant seems to do proper/hueg damage, maybe im just unlucky...)

Don't expect LBX10 to do amazing damage at point blank.

Rather, use them to pepper targets at a distance many times.

LBX20 is for point blank ownage, you need to be POINT BLANK though. None of this "lead target at 150m" crap. :P

hmm, thats rather counter to what i expected. granted, im used to MW4, where LBX = giant short range death cannon. or rather, maybe im just used to only LBX20's.
still, a lack of autofire seems to not help with the whole pepper at range thing. besides, thats sandpapering to the max, amiright?

The LBX10s actually have a very small spread at range, and no damage drop off.

Just try to be accurate with them, they're beast at taking off MKII arms. :P

Even in MW4, LBX10s weren't all that great.  They were good against <45ton assets but against anything larger they were far from a "death cannon."  The LBX20, on the other hand, is a point blank beast.  I still prefer UAC20 for its full damage at the maximum range.

MW4 was basically just a game of "how many LBX20 can I fit into a 100 ton mech", anyway.

LBX10 is pretty capable currently, just need to be accurate. I've taken a madcat's CT down to red in 3 double volleys, and its got a faster refire and travel speed than most weapons.

there is a large difference between (C)LBX and ISLBX. the clan version has a much tighter grouping. this may be what you are noticing.

Will look into that, as I don't believe it is supposed to be the case, if it is.

There shouldn't be any difference in accuracy between the two variants as the principle functionality and ballistics are the same.  The clan version is simply smaller and lighter.

The spread param on both weapons is set to 0.3

Both weapons use the same ammo entity.

Yeah, uhh, especially when it comes to Clan LBX10 and Inner Sphere LBX10, they are functionally identical and the ISLBX10 actually weighs less than an AC10...
When will full game/demo/beta be released?
We're planning a beta release in the next *very* few weeks. At this time, we can't be more specific. Please stop asking.

No, I will not stop asking.

i may just be wrong. i have not scientifically proved it or anything, it was just offhand something i noticed when using the shadowcat B and the thanatos D.

yeah. the patterns are indeed different. with multiple shots back and forth, the shadowcat's lbx forms a pillar, hitting a single torso, whereas a thanatos's takes more of a wide spread. whether or not this is because of the different characteristics of the 'mechs, or the weapons, no idea. you can see in these screenshots here.

note: it's been like this since i started playing in .32, i always thought it was intentional lol.
