What realistic in-universe think could represent the 'flag' anyway. I'd rather have it somewhat grounded in battletech lore.
I'd rather have more game modes than not due to some devotional adherence to canon.

Capture the flag would be great with one reservation:

No repairs.

In fact I think most game modes would be better with no repairs.

..., but this is battletech, and sense is often not made.

Here is how I see every CTF gaming going down:

Both sides capture the other side's flag. The flag holders runs back and parks inside their hangar while the entire team protects the carrier. Then its basically a TSA map.

CTF would need all kind of special restrictions like "going inside a hangar drops the flag, no base turrets, and if both sides hold the flag for 5 minutes, the flags automatically reset to the flag stand.

Center-Flag would probably work better. There is a single flag in the middle of the map. You must capture that flag and move it into drop location that is just outside the enemies base.

No, I just hate that you can almost never get big all out battles and shit because everyone is always so busy with running back to the main base to repair half the time.

Like it really takes away from the game I think.  Maybe if you could only repair in forward bases and could only sell in the main base... but those are things to be talked about in another thread at another time.

Thats precisely what I had in mind, ya.

Bomb truck or modified apc or something sure. IIRC orbital strikes are verboten, not even the IS is willing to resort to them. Artillery beacon? Why not use a narc though? Meh.

You could just allow flag caps even if you're flag has been stolen.  That would prevent the two flag holds from just hiding under a rock in their base.

I would prefer to just have some sort of objectives system with definable objectives.  Where a CTF style objective is an option as is a "reverse CTF."
If I was any good an LUA I would look into it myself.  Not to hijack the thread (but I am) what sort of objectives could you guys think of?
A bit of history for you guys, back in '07 before the move to cryengine we were looking at modding Enemy Territory:Quake Wars instead, which uses three different objective based goals -
Destroy, Hack, and one other one I can't remember.  There was a lot of gameplay potential that sadly isn't the easiest thing to implement on CryEngine.  Its too bad that many flowgraphs don't work in MP otherwise it wouldn't be that difficult at all.

A series of static base doodads that could be knocked out. Exhaust vents/coolant lines on power generators, radar towers, coms towers, supply trucks etc. Possible to rig them like non-firing turrets or something and have their destruction cost the team tickets when destroyed and don't respawn? That would mix up TSA a bit, hard as hell to balance though.

Sorry to say, Mechs + CTF = Fail.

MechWarrior 4 tried it, and we stuck to Team Attrition.

MW4 didn't have as many types of assets. I'm actually fairly sure that it would work. Besides, anything that promotes movement is better than TSA.

I do not know if CTF can be achieved with the current assets and armor levels. You would just need a few harassers and be gone with the flag.
If you modifiy the amount of armor, then maybe this could happen. Or some other drawback for the flag carrier, like increased damage, or maybe the flag is a highy explosive barrel ;)
