Lets hear it for the mapmakers!
« on: January 23, 2012, 01:58:03 AM »
I dont know about you guys, but I LOVE all the community maps that are out there. In many ways, its the maps that makes the game, imo, and it keeps everything fresh and new. So I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank everyone who makes these maps and to ask those responsible to take a bow and allow us, the community, to bestow upon you great quantities of karma for all your hard work.
Some of my personal favorites, Warzone, a great aero map, with just great ambience. Can only imagine how awesome this one would be with 40 man servers.
Ring of fire. Battle in paradise. How can you not love it?
So thats it, gents step forward and take credit.

If you guys like, you could upload a picture of the map  so people can see them if they havent played your particular map.
It wouldnt be bad either if we use this thread for possible tweaks for a few maps which could only make them more awesome. <i.e. making some high ridges more accessible to non JJ mechs to allow battle to flow up and over these terrain feature. >
Once again.
THanks. and ~S~

Ill add my thanks to the community. The more work you do in adding maps, you extend the gameplay experience threefold.

New idea- would I be able to use an external hard drive to add RAM and/or improve gigahertz?

I'll praise them as soon as scenery is either destructible or no-collide.

Post a screenshot of it with the minimap open - 100x more helpful than that vague description

Thanks for the feedback on Ring of Fire. It's been getting lots of love lately - which I'm super happy to see.

Unfortunately the .cry version was lost when my last hard drive failed, so the hole you mentioned will forever be an easter egg.

I'm working hard on the next map - flatlands now :)

Thanks for all the maps. Some of them are really beautiful and so far I only found one I didn't like.

But I also want to mention that I hate how nearly none of the maps are in any rotations. A couple of weeks ago I tried out about twenty maps that had been around for quite a while but I had never seen any of them before. And except for one map I was completely surprised about how beautiful and/or interesting the maps were.

We need at least one server that is regularly updated and runs only the maps that no other server is running. Would that be possible? Otherwise we could praise and motivate the map-makers for all eternity, but their maps would never be more than a couple of .jpegs to us. If there even is a thread announcing the map, some of them just appear and nobody ever notices.

The only custom maps I've really had much fun with have been Ring of Fire and Zoetemeer - I find a lot of the others turn into boring sniperfests (durr hurr Outpost).

!ghost bear legacy runs a lot of custom maps made by them and other map makers.

typical response from some one who's never tried to make a map for this game..

What map is that huge wide open one with all the antennas and crashed dropships? that map was fapping amazing except my team refused to cap so i had to spend the entire game back capping in a scat until i was the only one left at 20 seconds in a LBX demo holding out against the entire enemy team.

I believe that's TC_Warzone.

I wish the main bases were just a tad closer, but otherwise I did enjoy the map as well.

I've made a few maps, so thanks very much for this thread, and you're welcome!  :)
Maps are nothing without people who play on them, so thx for the promotion!

The work of the fellow mappers always give me inspiration, and new ideas.
I don't post often, so I usually don't write in their map topics, but hereby I would like to say my thanks and respect to them.

I just mention a few names(it's not a full list, so please don't take it personally, if you are not on it):
Duffanichta - always has some new ideas
Vitos and linkinfrost - for their great landscapes and atmosphere
Finalizer and AncientDemise - for their cities

And I had some fun times on Alshain (by Coffinail), and on Northwind (by Snyp3r )   ;)

I like that many here like Warzone  :D

See you in combat!

This might be a shameless plug since I posted the screenshot in the map thread itself. But, I'm really excited on the new one I'm finishing up now (TC_Flatlands). Here is a picture from one of the bases. It looks better than anything I've made yet in game...
