TC_Towne (early screens)
« on: January 27, 2012, 05:07:50 PM »
This is my newest masterpiece.

It will take place at the planet Towne.

I will ad more screens and info over time.

Status:

Finished:
-terrain
-texturing
-colourmap
-tod -day and night cycle

To Do:
-finalize the foliage
-creating towns
-capturespots

I am very proud of the texturing and the colourmap it ads a lot of detail to the hills that are to far away to get their extremely detailed ridges rendered.

Have a look:

Have you implemented a backup routine for your sensitive data yet? ;)

pfft, learning from your mistakes is over-rated

I only ruined one of my maps 3 times in a row by clicking the "create Island" button while trying to raise the height limit for terrain :o

@spooky: I have 2 backups now and relocated the 1 outside my folder..

@tripod: that is why I use out of the box heightmaps and just import them, easy to reimport if shit happens (but do not accidently export your srewed up ingame map to your original heightmap!)

Love it!  ;D

I just wish the vanilla Crysis vegetation could match the depth and detail of the ridge. Maybe, since these are community maps, you could borrow some of those packs from crymod (or is it crydev now?) or something. Though I wonder what the performance impact would be...

Anyway, keep at it!

Work still in progress ( i make a break right now.. knowing that mwo has no custom maps killed my mood a bit)

aaand Towne is the planet :P .. it is more like 2-3 larger villages.

I haven't been keeping up on the news, so that's quite a bummer to hear.

Looking pretty decent, did you follow the tips on my terrain tutorials?

If you have baked directional shading then a dynamic tod doesnt because the sun needs to be matching the diection of the shading. When it moves to the other side of the map it can make it look really odd. IMHO the dynamic tod is a bit of a gimmic. I think the baked shading is better.

Also, a couple things i noticed right off the batt. Your pebbles texture is scaled up way too much, you should make it tile a bit more. Also, the ambient occlusion or cavity maps or whatever you have baked into the texture looks a bit low res. It darkens a bit too much of the terrain and sort of breaks the illusion of it being a cavity or crevice in the terrain. Try using my method i posted in the forum if you havent already. If you have you may need to reduce the opacity a tiny bit in photoshop.

Did you render the colormap with the HQ option? The baked shadng and cavity maps are kinda pixelated unless you do.

Other then that it looks pretty good, looks like an interesting terrain to fight on, keep it coming! :D
