Anyone know of a good AVI video converter.
« on: February 01, 2012, 05:12:48 AM »
Hey folks, I need to know of a good .avi video converter. I recorded a bunch of videos a while ago with fraps, but windows movie maker can't read the shit, so I need to convert the files. It would be great if it can convert multiple files at the same time.

If it converts to .wmv i'll be happy.

How i play this is it just for making it or playing and making it

VLC player can also convert. I do not know if the quality is any good, though.

I use Xillosoft. Works good: can do from any to any. I have used it for audio conversion too.

I use handbrake to convert my fraps recordings to something smaller for upload to youtube (from 4GB to like 100MB for example with mp4).  Its free, open source, multiplatform and pretty easy to use.

Digital Media Converter is  a free video converter software that converts every type of media file. No adware, and completely virus free.  Supports almost any file format and it is a fast converter. It also does batch conversion and perfectly keeps your audio and video in sync.

outside of windows ther is the mplayer suite for Linux/GNU:
pretty much from any to any (even raw  :o video or audio streams ) but on command line
I usually use it to convert from YouTube downloads do whatever I need (mp4 -> mp3 for in-car player)
vlc is still not mature in trans-coding, but thre are many ffmpeg-based tools...
