9600 Geforce on an 18 amp 12 v rail?
« on: March 15, 2008, 12:27:49 AM »
My PSU is as cheap as everything else in it (except the CPU, which is more expensive than the Mobo). Anyway, it is an 18 am 12 v rail, and I want a 9600 geforce. Can I use this weak 12 v rail on one, or could it cause tremendous slow down? How much more would I be loosing (take into account that I'm also using a x8 mode x16 width PCIe express slot).
I do not have any emotions, only an emotion processor.

What ever nVidia says you need for the video card, you need. runing it out of spec can cause damge and void it. There is no point in buying a card if your PSU cant handle it.
Also, what is your 16x lane runing in 8x mode? It wont effect your performance tho.

The 9600GT isn't like the other nVidia lower midlevel offerings. It's a very impressive card, especially for the price point. My eVGA SSC Edition runs Crysis on high with AA turned up, and it does it at over 30 fps during online play.

As an interesting note, the 9600GT is actually faster than nVidia says it is, especially if you run it in an nForce motherboard (which I am). An interesting article can be found here: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/Shady_9600_GT

Yeah, the 9600GT is quite good actually but if you want value for ur money buy a 8800GT or GT OC even...
Thatll keep u going for a few years for sure :) but still, i have nothing bad to say about the 9600GT..

The positive thing about nVidia is that the numbers still make sense... 7600 --> 8800 --> 9600....
AMD has this HD2423 crap going on where i dont understand anymore what is good and what not.
Hehe little offtopic but who cares eh? :)

Cool, I have an Nforce AM2 mobo. It is x16 compatible x8 real mode though.
