I've been following this site for a while and registered because a few things hit me while reading this thread that I really wanted to make a note about.

In all honesty, the more I think about melee combat, the more I see why you would only use it if you were forced too.

First of all, the faster mechs are generally going to decided the range of the fight, also, the faster mechs are generally going to be the smaller mechs. So if a light mech pilot wants to kick an Atlas in the shin, he's got something to consider, the Atlas has more armor on one of its legs than the light mech has on its entire chassis. So if the light mech wants to kick out the Atlas' leg, he's probably going to have to kick the same leg several times in order to achieve anything. Conversely, one well timed backhand from the Atlas is going to end the light mech's quest very, very quickly. Considering the immense risk for the light mech here against the reward of crippling a mech that, quite frankly, wasn't moving all that fast to begin with, I'll take my chances ducking between gauss slugs at a range.

As for that picture of the Atlas punching the Warhawk (the arms make me think it's a Warhawk anyway) in the face. As hilarious as that is, I think it's pretty safe to say that the laser on the Atlas' arm doesn't work anymore. There's another drawback.

Finally, someone said that they didn't want to see mechs constantly lumbering through their AC/20 rounds to engage in melee combat. If that happens then you deserved it. Shame on you for standing still the entire time and letting him get up on you.  :P

Look guys, a few points.

Assault tech wave 1 allows customizable pods (and works to great effect!).

However, I think that we best use closer to Mechwarrior4's method of pod systems, unless the mech is omni.

Realism is important in my opinion, because otherwise, it breaks the feel of the game. Yes, Battletech isn't realistic with current technology, but we don't know the properties of Mynomer. Granted, Mechs would have more dynamic damage anyway.

It'd be sweet if it could be implemented.
DFA's, ramming kicks and landing hatchets would surely make themselves noticed...lol
Just wanted to bump the thread up a bit... no annoyance intended. =))
All the best!!

I think it would help balance IS vs Clan.

^ agree, Star Commander.

IS needs all the help they can get  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Would make for some hellish "ammo expended" scenarios as well....hmmm...idea?

If I could arm my mech with the HL2 gravity gun, I'll be happy.  lol

No thanks.. Half Life 2 was already a meh experience I don't need more of it even if the gravity gun was pretty neat =/.

i was thinking melee today on loooong booooring bus ride back from my gym classes bowling alley trip, and i thought of some cool scenarios that would piss some people off. ;D imagine a demolisher sitting on a road in the woods laying down fire on your infantry then a catapult JJ's in and kicks its rear in and fires into the open wound with its 4 lasers...  i know this is unlikely and im not going with the games limits just my imagination... cause in my imagination everything is epic or stupid as hell, one or the other. makes for some cool scenarios to pop in when im bored, this came up in the 20 seconds that i was asleep heheh.

anyway im hopping off for the night

I don't know if its planned but couldn't a mech rip up a tree and use it like a club?  I think that would be fun at least one or twice.

HAHA think of it this way:

1. Catapult lands next to demolisher, awkwardly kicks like an armless hobo (atleast how i think of a mech kicking  :P) then fires lasers into new butt crack

2. Catapult lands ON demolisher and is engulfed by explosion, seconds later it emerges lasers blazing and missiles flying with remnants of metal and fire falling/drifting in the air (respectively)

I think, atleast from the relieved infantry's point of view that 2 would win the style points, but that's me  :D
All of my posts are of my personal opinions unless obviously otherwise.
