Battle Chat
« on: February 28, 2013, 08:13:10 AM »
As a long timer gamer in the Battltech franchise i often use BT specific battlechat.
Ive noticed some people dont understand the shorthand so i figure a list is worth having. please add any you use

AFF - short for affirmative means yes, ie are you running passive ? "aff"
Neg - Short for negative. ie do you have tag ? "neg" or no
(Aff and Neg are strictly clan terms, but many BT players use them regardless of obvious faction affiliation)

GG - Good game
GK - Good kill
GF - Good fight
GGA - Good game all

TY - Thank You
YW - Your welcome
NP - No problem

OMW - on my way

Feel free to add your own chat shorthand to the list

You forgot RTB.

Good catch

RTB = Returning to base (typically to repair the vehicle and reload expendable ammo loadouts)

LT = Long Tom (generally used as a warning that the opposing team has an LT on the field)

CT/CTC - contact (assumed to around the reporting player's grid position unless specifially followed by coordinates)
Where we're going, we don't need roads.

Highly specialized, but worth an explanation:"LT up, grab C3 please."

This means a teammate has grabbed a Long Tom, and will be helped out if you choose a unit carrying C3. This extends its range beyond what its own radar can reach, and in many cases can show units that would've been otherwise hidden. Also in special situations, It can show targets in the 1,800+m range of the LT which are hittable in the right terrain.
Typically, just having the C3 is good enough, but if people are willing to coordinate, C3 can chain out across an entire map.

AFK = Away From Keyboard
GJ = Good Job
INC (insert grid) = Incoming (Target/Hostile at grid location)

BTW where's the regular comments like;
SOB/SOAB = Son O' A Bicycle-enthusiast
WTF = What Da Fawk
etc. http://www.netlingo.com/acronyms.php

INC (insert grid) = Incoming (Target/Hostile at grid location)

Also without the (insert grid) it means look at the grid in the text after my name (a few new guys miss this).

I will add that I use inc and contact for different situations:

Contact: Contact in given grid: Jodix[D4]: "contact" or Jodix[D5]: "contact D4" means both enemy in D4.

Inc: Contact moving to given grid: Jodix[D4]: "Inc" means enemies approaching D4, while Jodix[B4]: "Inc D4" means enemies around B4 spotted, moving D4.

I know these are little differences and it's not much you have to write more to be more clear, I guess I got used to writing as little as possible since I started flying.

Surat = An epithet referring to a cute, monkey-like mammal native to the Clan Homeworlds that the lower Castes keep as pets.

Sometimes used by players as a good natured insult

Likewise

Freebirth = Pejorative version of "Freeborn". Considered an insult and curse.

Though again used ingame is usually meant as a good natured retort

LOL yes

Some one posting this is not impersonating a sheep, but has a Battle Armour up their bum on their six, and could use some help scraping the bugger off.

If a BA (Battle Armour aka Toad) has latched onto someone , its often easier for a third party to target and take them out. Try and anticipate where it will land after a jump and blast that spot with SRM's or LBX munitions
