I miss my Thanatos
« on: August 22, 2013, 02:39:28 PM »
Just letting you guys know that I'm not gone or anything.  My mobo took a crap not too long ago and I don't want to rebuild around a new one with 5 year old parts.  So it may take me a while but when I've

saved up enough I'll build a new rig and then you'll see me back in action.  SO GLAD to hear there's a possible resurgence on the horizon.  Hope it all works out.  MWLL was always the better game anyway...

To cheer you up here's a Thanatos dancing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52BI-ne-joQ#t=119
Tools and I:
   - MWLL Online Launcher (LAN UDP Forwarder) - evolution of past "Le Proof of Concepto" project: connect without Gamespy via packet redirection;
   - Vehicle Browser - "Pocket Wiki" ©okaolias (not really that though);
   - Rconnect 4.3 - Server tools: map manager/player voting add-ons;
   - CryHammer - Validates Patch/CDKey of Crysis Wars (now unable to validate CDKey due to turned off Gamespy servers).

Haven't really spent much time thinking about it yet Square.   It seems every time I build a new rig, I have to spend days doing research catching myself up to the current tech, and I don't have the time or patience for it at this time.

However, I'm pretty sure I'm going to use SSDs and I may even use an Intel processor for the first time.  Yes, I have only ever used AMD processors and no, I've never been disappointed.   :P

@blasto stay with AMD! iirc Intel will be integrating a GPU into their CPUs and will aim to integrate the CPU onto the mobo too, eventually.

I could recommend SSD, nothing boots faster. But get a 200 gig, i got only 100 and that gets full pretty fast.

Intel have had integrated gpu's on their cpu's since Sandy Bridge (the hd3000 and hd4000 in the 2500k and 2600k and iirc many of the non-k models as well). What does that mean? Well, you could play Crysis on medium at 1366x768... I doubt the Haswell chips are a lot better than Sandy or Ivy, and I doubt the AMD offerings would be much better either, I'd stick with a discrete GPU. Maybe in another 5 years we can play Crysis at 1080p on the integrated... at which point something literally photorealistic will be out, rendering integrated the poor man's option again :/

How is integrating the CPU in the motherboard a bad thing?

Intel still rules the upper mid/high end but AMD is still the better bang for the buck at the mid-low range with the same o cavent of, if you want better energy efficiency and run temp, go intel.

SSDs are so much cheaper now it's pretty much a no brainer now.

AMD high end APU's are still not quite really to be main replacements for mid range gaming PC but could be there in the next generation. For gaming laptops they're the best bang for your buck integrated solution.
