Thanks for all the hard work you guys are putting into this.  I know you will get the mechs working soon, but I was wondering about the video from a couple months ago that had the mechs walking through the woods?  Was that a special "manual" animation or something?  Just seemed like you had them working then so I am a little confused.

The animation themselfes are not a big problem. You just tell the 'mech "walk" and it walks for you. But what are the legs supposed to do when a 'mech gets hit or falls down? You don't want to render those all the time because it's harder to links those animations together (aka. gets hit, gets hit again, falls down, gets up and walks) - it just won't look natural. That's where the programmers come into place. They tell the engine how to shift and move in certain situations. Basically tell them what to do with the extremeties when something happens.

So your term of "manual" animation actually fits quite well :)

Oh and PS: Welcome to the Forum! Saw you just got 3 posts :P

Sort of. We've got several sets of mechs that walk but they're not "right". Basically we were doing a set of baked animations and the mechs just use the best one of the set, What I'm working on now is a complete recode that would allow the mechs to mix and blend various animations together, like walking downhill with a leg damaged limp. The mechs have to be just right or I won't be happy with them.

Cedega is completely useless. They stole Wine code a couple of years ago and used dirty hacks to get the games going. Wine used a clean approach and today, Wine has better compatibility in almost every aspect because of that.
As a Wine maintainer, I have quite some experience getting games to work. Crysis does runk. However, there's severe graphical corruption, low FPS and a couple of other bugs. In Cedega, there are no reports that it works at all.

Thanks for clarifying that ... I don't like Cedega myself at all. And now I know why :D

That's what I heard as well, but the Cedega site reports it as working.

Wine is by far more reliable when it comes to windows gaming.  Although, truth be told, I always maintain a dual boot.  One partition for my everyday debian goodness, and one XP part for gaming purposes.  I know it's sacrilege, but it sure is easy.  ;D

Desktop is Windows only. Laptop is Gentoo only. Only turning on my desktop to play. Can't afford it to let it run for nothing ;-)
