Servers consistently timing out even after gamespy fix
« on: March 21, 2015, 12:24:43 AM »
Hey, I was trying to get into this game since it's been on my "That looks like a can and a half of rad fun" list for years, but after I installed and followed the qtracker workaround to the letter, nada. Here's my host file for reference. And yes, I did try it without the extra #'d bit after the PSO2 things.
Code: [Select]
# Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
#      102.54.94.97     rhino.acme.com          # source server
#       38.25.63.10     x.acme.com              # x client host

Hello and welcome to MWLL!
Sorry to hear you are having issues with qtracker. Your hosts file looks ok. I will have someone with a bit more tech knowledge reply soon to this thread. In the meantime, I suggest trying "Brunos" Tool to see if that gets you successfully on the servers.
http://forum.mechlivinglegends.net/index.php/topic,20534.0.html or dowload here: http://brunodemetrio.com.sapo.pt/mwll/MwllLauncher-0.8.0.7z Unzip with something like 7zip, http://www.7-zip.org/, then open the exe. If that tool works for you then that will at least get you to being able to play. Then we can try to solve the qtracker issue. Good luck and I will be sure to get someone to respond to this thread quickly. We have a few teamspeak servers that might be another way to get assistance. wr-clan.no-ip.org, , mwll.mwmaster.net and ts3.bks.ca . Hope you are able to get in game and you enjoy your stay!

Welcome, and I hope you get to play soon enough.

It's been a bit of a struggle ever since gamespy went down, but the workarounds should work just fine... at least when you have knowledgeable people trying to help you out.

Have fun and play hard ;)

Edit: I guess you've seen this by now, but I'll post it anyway: http://forum.mechlivinglegends.net/index.php/topic,20410.15.html

What exactly happens when you try using the regular launcher, run the game, create the "gamespy" account and try connecting to a server?

Well, something completely different is going on now. I tried creating an account on a different email than my old gamespy account after it occurred to me that it might just be using my old gamespy account under a new username and now it's stuck at connecting to server. And to the above question, it just says connection timed out after a period of time.

So you managed to create a new qtracker account and even see the server list? Does the connection to the game servers time out on all servers? There's like six of them on my list :P

Edit: it seems like you don't even have to Create a new account to be able to log in to qtracker - just punch in any Nickname as long as the password is qtracker

Yea, I can't connect to any server, it's stopped timing out but just keeps trying to connect in vain now, waited about half an hour and nada.

Ah, no dice with MWLL alt launcher, I have the game open and click join game once highlighted and nada, I launched via the alt launcher.

I guess I need to put up some instructions in that thread then. Taking the MWLL Alt. Launcher route, either: (even in the event you already did it this way, it might be handy to list here)
  • Pick server
  • Press/Toggle Join Server
  • Press Play! Game will be launcher and connected to server automatically
(this exact way limits you to one server per game launch)

Or:
  • Pick server
  • Press/Toggle Join Server
  • Launch MWLL, or in an already open MWLL...
  • In MWLL's console, type "connect 127.0.0.1" (or just "connect" if you prefer to type less, reaches localhost at port 64100 by default)

And my old launcher/test, "Le Proof of Concepto", was made obsolete with the MWLL Alt. Launcher. Mistakes can happen typing the IP address on the boxes I had. Also doesn't keeps the redirection active after a server disconnect.
Tools and I:
   - MWLL Online Launcher (LAN UDP Forwarder) - evolution of past "Le Proof of Concepto" project: connect without Gamespy via packet redirection;
   - Vehicle Browser - "Pocket Wiki" Šokaolias (not really that though);
   - Rconnect 4.3 - Server tools: map manager/player voting add-ons;
   - CryHammer - Validates Patch/CDKey of Crysis Wars (now unable to validate CDKey due to turned off Gamespy servers).

Reinstalled MWLL, for some reason when i try to connect to a server using the host's file qtracker fix i get the standard loading "connecting to Huntress free training" thing that never stops, it goes on for at least 20 mins which is as long as i've let it sit. Im not sure if this is the same problem or what. My firewall is set to let the game through. The same happens with every MWLL server.

My client is seeing the server list fine, refreshing repopulates the list normally. The server list said there were 2 ppl in that server at the time.

edit:
After trying for 30 mins to get it working, it randomly decides to connect me minutes after i make this post. Im convinced that posting on these forums is some kind of voodoo magic for fixing issues with the game.
