Hi,
i tweaked a CCC generated high spec autoexec, compared and patched against various sources (thanks all in community)
 8)
I have had a mid to low spec machine here:
945 Core 2 duo @3.4GHZ
X5460 Xeon  @3.16 GHz (130W TDP)
6GB RAM (800 MHZ DDR2) dual channel
4GB RAM (800 MHZ DDR2) dual channel with heatsinks
GA-P35-S3 Motherboard (F8 BIOS)
DELL ATI HD4650  (@640MHz)1GB ddr2 RAM @400MHz (=800MHz)
MSI R6770-MD1GD5 (800MHz) 1GB DDR5 @550MHz (=4400MHz)
HDD not worth a mention...
this machine actually got sold :o in parts ;D
recently i acquired this:
A8-3820 APU @2.8 GHz (67W TDP)
4GB RAM (1333 MHz DDR3) dual
ASUS F1 A75 M LE (6x3.0 USB dual 16x PCIe, SATA III)
MSI R6770-MD1GD5 (800MHz) 1GB DDR5 @550MHz (=4400MHz)
HDD SATA II SSD 64GB (slow low budget china-made SSD)

In order to have any consistend game experience, only copy (as in some file manager) over the running file, allways having the original out of danger and intact ...
- rename originals to associate to the purpose and level of settings
- if ever consider posting a variant or patch here please do comment the code as appropriate :)

so in oreder to play (and shoot at people :o ) i really had to tweak it a bit: (copy and paste to a empty notepad and save as autoexec.cfg)

Nice one dude, we should consider making a front page or a sticky for various .cfg files to make it easier for peeps.

Nice one

Code: [Select]
r_width = 1280
r_height = 1024
r_VSync = 0
Just remove these lines, they are not needed. Remember to always put VSync to 1 (I see that it's actually set in another line)

Hmm, not advisable, say, would I. If fps dip below your screen refresh rate will, stuck at half the framerate of your screen refresh rate be.  Yes, hmmm.
Tools and I:

okay,
everyone is free to post opinions or files.

It is up to users to provide feedback on any issue found or advertised.

RE vsync:
there are many spears broken regarding this one - and still are  ::)
-refresh is say 60 fps
-and frame rate is about 40 fps
 You will be delayed another few frames just to match the begin/end of many a refresh.
 If You are closer to 80 fps its about just the same.
Only luck if 1/4 1/2 or 60fps (there is an option for  ???  maxfps?)
Only rationale behind Vsync is to get some overhead while waiting and to avoid tearing if refresh happens during picture re-draw
This is non issue IMO
While triple buffering does reduce this tearing it makes our FPS situation even worse by delaying few (namely tree) frames (with my 16...26fps this is about 3x 60...28msec quite a lot!).

So in my humble opinion i will keep it off but will do tests for both and hopefully report back :)

The later r_vsync=1 is by error :)

Every feed back is appreciated  :)

That never happened to me  ???
On my old desktop (GTX 480, AMD 1090T) I was always stable at 40-60 FPS on maps like Sandblasted and Mirage, with VSync enabled...

Yep cest. You would want to use vsync to get rid of any visible screen tearing. It has the potential to incur input delay and performance drop otherwise. The cut in half stuff can be avoided when vsync is on with Triple Buffering, Adaptive Vsync, G-Sync or FreeSync.

Cut in half example (white line VSync effect, gray line actual FPS without):

More stuff below: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/graphics-card-myths,3694-3.html
Quote
So, V-sync On, Or V-sync Off?

Let's say you're in the majority and own a typical 60 Hz display:

    If you play first-person shooter games competitively, and/or have issues with perceived input lag, and/or if your system cannot sustain at least 60 FPS in a given title, and/or you're benchmarking your graphics card, then you should turn V-sync off.
    If none of the above applies to you and you experience significant screen tearing, then you should turn V-sync on.
    As a general rule, or if you donít feel strongly either way, just keep V-sync off.

You forgot one thing...VSync can make your video card's life longer, by capping the FPS to 60, and then reducing the generate heat, and power drain  ::) :)
So yeah, If you're not playing competitively, leave it on. Actually, since the pace of this game is not as fast as FPS game's one, it doesn't make a big difference. I always played with VSync on here, so...  ;D

Edit: oh yep, I also forced tripled buffering on by using Nvidia control panel

Edit2: I think the reason of why I never had problems was that the FPS drops were caused by the CPU bottlenecking, not by the GPU...

That is a good point yes, and it has it's uses on older games as well to not make them run crazy fast. Don't use Triple Buffering if you're short on VRAM though, it's an extra buffer you're using after all. Use Adaptive VSync instead of Triple Buffering if you're able to, it adds no overhead to the rendering chain.

If you're going for smoothness even a higher framerate that 60 helps though.

Well I always used triple buffering on my GTX 480 (1.5 GB VRAM), but was unable to use Adaptive V-Sync because only Kepler and Maxwell GPUs support this feature.
I've been trying Adaptive V-Sync on my new GPU now, and actually I still see some tearing while running at less than 60fps. I'll try to disable Triple Buffering, but probably that wouldn't make much sense, since I have 4 GB of VRAM now  ::)

While i see peope are knowlegable, i think some might miss the point here.
 ::)
midspec machines run below 30 actually mine is quite atop of mid spec yet runs on 16...46 in game FPS   :o  ???

this is exactly why i ran the optimisation process in the first place:

I drop well below 25 FPS (that is absolute low limit for any decent play).

All this file is about those machines that "fall through" the 25 fps floor - the midspec  :-\ gamers

once i come to hi spec machines (medium and hi settings - level 3 and above) i will lock the vsync and probably go for fixed framerate.  :D

Anyhow kind thanks for the valuable input, gentleman.  :)

NOTE:
Code: [Select]

P.S. same file applies to 3-core phenoms et al.  :P
