META4
« on: August 26, 2015, 11:03:02 AM »
Saw it at TIGsource
Looks pretty, but I don't know where the gameplay is heading.
I think turn-based gameplay would work better than real-time.

Nice art style, it's nice to see someone not doing simple sprite work for a change.

Hey all,

I used to be on this forum and I have actually purchased the living legends mod when it was released.
Never had much time to play it but loved the fact people where still out there creating mech games.

I see you found out about my project.
It will indeed be real-time. We're actually convinced it will work.
I guess you'll only be convinced once you'll see the video's or play the actual game.

After a hiatus real-life break we're back on the project with a 3D engine that's capable of making the game work the way we want.

Follow our TIGsource development or just google the name for some more info.
We've also held several interviews and things are moving in the right direction.

Thanks for bringing the game up here on the forums!
Leendert

Maybe he meant he bought Crysis Wars in order to run MW:LL when it came out.

Looks great. I don't think I have to tell someone with your experience how difficult it's gonna be to make all the angles you might end up needing, but you seem up to it. So, I look forward to your game.

I am not certain this is wise, it automatically loses a lot of the appeal for me.

Intricate sprite work isometric mecha sounds good, yet another 3d blah explosions blah, fire the missles, shinji get in the fapping robot!

Not so much.

I'm pretty sure he meant that they use a 3d mesh for the terrain which, by "some dark magic", uv-map the mesh tiles with the actual isometric tile bitmaps so they look identical to regular isometric (2d) tiles. Only the mechs etc. are actual sprites. What this means is a) they can have shadow casting being handled by the engine and b) retain the pixel art look.

It's explained in the thread linked above in one of the last posts.

Edit: Here.

I'm with you now, I can see how this would make things a lot smother and efficient. It reminds me o

I withdraw my gigantic pair of cautious eyes.

Cheers for the information Cherno  :-*, a lot of what they're doing reminds me of a game called Gender Wars (which is a pretty funny and clever game).

I remember Gender Wars, not from playing it, but from reading about it in a magazine. That shit just wouldn't fly today, the PC crowd would have a field day! :D

Yes, I remember that game  ;D
Story part was what made it famous, not graphics or game play. Trying to control a group of 4 troopers with a single action/command always ended with one or more of them going the wrong way or getting stuck. Good old times.
