Updating the community installers
« on: August 31, 2015, 01:30:16 PM »
Hello all, long time no see and all that tosh.

Anyway, there has been some interest in having the community installers updated to include the workarounds now that gamespy is kaput.  After reading this I think it would be really good to have it back to being playable after a single automated installation.

I've been reading this thread, is there any consensus on which of the listed methods is the best fix, and the one that I should include in the installer?  I've not really kept up with any of these things and I am in the process of trying them out before I add them to the installer, so I'd be interested in hearing people thoughts on how it should be done.  Also a quick rundown of how exactly they work would be interesting.

Also are there any additional tools or fixes (e.g. updates to the actionmaps) that you think should be included with the install?

Cheers

Ahoy yourself :)

Speaking from personal experience; The Qtracker host file fix offers the easiest transition, but i still keep Bruno's tool warmed up just in case Qtracker starts being ghey (which does still happen from time to time)

No idea about actionmaps tho :/

So it might be worthwhile to make multiple methods available?

Good to know, thanks

As always, hosting can be made available on our site.
don't bother sending me PMs, I probably won't be reading them in time.

1. The Bruno's 0.8 tool is the fastest jump to the action thus far. It should be the recommended desktop icon/launcher IMHO
2. for Chaos March and on some (rare) occasions the host file/DNS tweak would be smart choice, so they should be installed
3. The method with the offline authentication (local host faux qtracker server) while working fastest, seems to be disliked by few members ??? ? so it shouldbe optional, unchecked by default?
4. There should be an desktop icon for navigating default browser to stats on spiks by default
5. There should be the updated /refined autoexec.cfg for hi/mid/low spec setups i can offer some for testing
6. There should be the CCC tweaker bundled, no? I like it a lot
make it a torrent? 0.7.1.1 ?
7. The new maps from funboks Beta should be included to ease beta testing (maps are huge make it an torrent?)
8. There could be a banner advertising Chaos March offering a link to download TS3 client software?
9. And there should be bookmarks to W-R/mwll.mwmaster/CJF or whatever public TS lodges?
10. The forum/wiki desktop icons would be nice  ::)

to much? I will provide the action-maps i use for my keyboard lacking right ctrl that toggles FPS readout and c-bill menu with /end/ key and fires it with /rshift/ out of the sack
the named autoexec.cfg files i will link here too as time permits

Probably the best idea would be to include everything in the installer (both offline and online methods, autoexec and actionmaps), and let people decide whether to apply them or not.

Oh god....

I've been reading this thread

...and I realised that the all links for the hostfiles I posted were completely wrong and totally messed up. Well, I fixed them now...better late than never I guess

EDIT: Well, I just cleaned that whole thread a bit (still need to finish the work, though), but now everything should be less messy than before.

newbs can infact Auto download.. the Mix up is on the server side, The server host must use a directory that  when upload happens it uploads as a raw Zip file , not as 7zip, or another file type. Crysis will not know what to do with the file if the Zipped formatt is not of the proper type

For the install if you can have it auto do the Qtracker host file fix that would be great, this will not conflict with  the other methods and also offer a no additional effort by the person that is installing the game to try it out , but also including the other methods for further options for users that will possibly see issues and or need the additional tasks to be completed. If its possible to place a shortcut after install to a directory of third party fix's this would do wonders. A readme file would be needed in that case if to include instructions or at the very least a list of URL's to the proper pages of help.
