So if I don't jump on the wagon now, I might not get another chance.

I currently run wine 2.15 - any reason not to use the newest versions? Hopefully I will find some time to check out your instructions later today. If the forum still exists then (fingers crossed).

I don't think there should be anything preventing you from using newer versions of wine. At least, I have wine 2.0.2 and MWLL runs on it. The only problem is the texture stretching, which is probably related to my GPU being AMD. If you have an NVidia GPU, I think MWLL should run better.

I tried it out and I couldn't even properly install things. Firstly, the DirectX9-installation crashed at the very end (so I assumed that everything went fine). Then the patch to MWLL 0.8.6 wanted to install Java 1.8, which seemingly doesn't support Windows 7. I then tried to launch the game, but it crashed due to missing libraries that I couldn't find out where to get.

I might give it another try later.

use the force
Luke
It's clearly stated as an game tip ;^]
Aside from that:
1. Use winetricks to install full DX9
2. Wine routes java thru, have it properly installed on the Linux
3. [snip self-censored]

I tried the game on latest Slackware-current with wine 2.13 (-staging) and 4.9.x kernel and what not (-current is development branch of Slackware) the game still works, likes proprietary drivers better.

I did use Winetricks to install DirectX 9, and I can't really do anything about MWLL itself trying to install Java and then failing at it because the emulated Windows 7 is too old.

Looking forward to your script.

Java hung at me too, i guess all one can do is ignore.

Hint for hack
Let the launcher try run the game,
Zap to an terminal (ctrl alt F2)
login, run
[snip self-censored]

gpm is the package enabling the mouse in console to select and paste
vi is the editor most fit to receive the "paste" operation across all interfaces

Lots of force was used by Luke to get this far -._.-

Hereafter in the old file i posted, just add the newfound login parameters

In case of proprietary drivers, run winecfg and switch to VCCS or whatever instead of gallium9, and vice versa for open source drivers.
Kindly please report back?

Instead of emulating Winderps 7, maybe try Winderps XP...?

I installed the missing libraries and tried again, but the game won't launch. Neither will the unmoddeld Crysis Wars.

Launching the game from the launcher, I cannot see any process for the game, since it almost immediately crashes.

Using your script, cest73, the same thing happens. Exactly the same thing that happens when I use the MWLL-launcher. Black screen for a second, then the game crashes.

Hang in there, buddy, we'll troubleshoot ya all the way to killing stompy robatz in zey Linux boxxen
:^]
So, just checking:
You made the full DX9 by winetricks?
You have an multilib or 32 bit system? I prefer multilib
You have java and java-compat32 on board?
You winecfg-ed the acceleration options for your setup (the card is called staging)?
The launcher runs at all (nevermind passing anything to the game)?
The game runs (mod or no mod)?
The game connects to servers?
In that, preferred order?

The launcher seems to use 32bit java, and on Linux that alone mandates either 32bit system or multilib.
HTH
And believe as i say (well type): i tripped each error possible for the game to work, no kidding.

Aside from that, on YT is the video of my install: I recorded from clean system (64 multilib) up to the game. Seek 'MW:LL cest73" and pick the channel?
Its a clean install of the game working: to an empty wine prefix.

Looking FFWD to shoot @ ya on Linux .:D...

The sheer insurmountable mass of smattering and dangerous half knowledge here is mind-boggling. I can only advise to take not a single instruction out of cests mouth seriously. It hurts to just look at the procedures being suggested out of pure unadultered ignorance.
don't bother sending me PMs, I probably won't be reading them in time.

He is able to make MWLL run on Linux so he must be doing someting right, right?   ;D

On a serious note, when(/if?) you guys can make a clear and easy to follow guide how to execute this we will see a whole new group of gamers join MWLL.

Then put him right dude, don't just point the finger.

As Silver said, we could expand the player pool through something like this.

Hello harpie, how is all?
Still throwing sticks and dirt?
But, as Silvercraft mentioned, to get someone going- You wouldn't know?

Yes, I dangerously put 2 (two) players in the linux band - aint that menacing?

And like it or not, more will be coming.

Out of sheer ignorance and smattering be it the way You preffer to call it.

He isn't pointing fingers, he's calling names

And be it known, the devs seem to oppose this game being played on Linux?

Clearly that must be it.

I could put him right, but that would involve work. Wouldn't have been a problem in the past, but I've grown weary. The very least I could do, and did, was air my displeasure at the cargo-cult methods being displayed in this tutorial.
