GPU Cooked, parts list porn for new machine
« on: February 13, 2017, 07:09:05 PM »
Hola lads

RIP my laptop's 760M, 2013-2017

After a long, hot, and abusive life within the tiny confines of my laptop, the old GPU heaved and BSOD'd its last this Saturday. Donate to your favourite charity in its memory.

While I still have a very good Integrated Graphics on the CPU, it is not enough to run this game at all. :(

In other news, these parts are making the first Desktop i've ever owned:

I'm going to call it the DeathCube, and it should be arriving in the next two weeks.

Until then I will be rather inactive in game :(

Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro OEM 64-bit $169.99

Otherwise looks nice, I'd love to be able to afford an upgrade.

For the cooler I'd rather go with a Thermalright Le Grand Macho RT for example, or the classic HR-02 Macho Rev. B. Should fit into the Fractal Design Node 804 as well.

why would he need such a nerd cooler, he's never going to be limited by his cpu.

source: i have a i5 2500 with a stock cooler, it's inaudible in a decent case, despite the overclock.

You mean this thing?
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler

The CPU box doesn't come with a cooler unfortunately, so I went with this beast thing.

Also the parts list is purely for appreciation, its too late to modify as I already sharted the money out my ass.

Semantic of me, but im rsther sure there is a threshold db wise most* people can't hear below.

Mostly im just bitter that my GPU sounds like a turbo spooling up 90% of the time. I just hope it doesn't crap out on me anytime soon. That'd be all my gaming put to an end.

Edit: I hate mobile phone keyboards. Bring back actual buttons for crying out loud.

*like 99% of people, maybe not those few blind dudes who can use echo location though.

Ah gotcha, my mistake.

I'm used to laptopland where 90C GPU and CPU temps are somewhat normal, so i'm interested to see how this thing turns out.

Also I got MWLL running on the Integrated Chip in my laptop. Intel HD Graphics 4600 a GO GO

So a long time later, the new machine is running.

First off, the 7600K Kaby Lake couldn't be run by my BIOS, because the MOBO was 1 month too old to have gotten a factory update to run Kaby Lake. No CPU means no BIOS update, so it had to go into a shop where they performed the update at a very cheap and fast rate.

Realtek Audio Drivers can go die in a hole. As can the onboard sound card on my MOBO, which according to various descriptions isn't working correctly due to BIOS.

Also my old laptop's wifi card decided to KAPUT, which to me is a sign that it is on its way out quicker than expected. This ended my plans to bridge the connection through my laptop wifi before I move out.

So, I purchased a TP-LINK USB wifi adapter, which is working wonderfully and i rather enjoy. And second, an ASUS Sound Card, PCI-Express, which with a short update, is working perfectly AND driving my front panel audio ports. Apply money to fix problems? Yes, but I don't have the patience to wait for MSI to poop out a BIOS update anytime soon.

The journey is finished, I can now run Crysis on Ultra (or Vic Viper CFG mode).

END.

That's pretty weird, I've probs got the same on board sound and I've never had any issues with the drivers. I hope the mobo doesn't give you any grief in that regard for other things, you don't want it to forget how to use HDDs all of a sudden or something.

It proooobably isn't the fault of Realtek. I've just had problems on laptops before with their drivers and then and now spent far too many hours tearing hair out.

I will gladly take on Wifi Routers and Printers before I touch Sound Drivers most of the time. I'm definitely keeping an eye on the board for other sneaky problems, but so far its running like a champ.
